The Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works for the City of Oshkosh, WI is searching for Civil Engineering Technicians (CET). The Engineering Division administers approximately $30 million in construction contracts annually. The majority of these construction projects are designed and prepared by in-house staff, consisting of 6 engineers and 12 technicians with varying degrees of experience. The City utilizes Autodesk Civil 3D for plan construction and preparation. Additionally, to assist in plan preparation, record keeping, and construction documentation the City utilizes a full line of ESRI products to include ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro), ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Online, Collector, Survey123, and Dashboards.
The City recently transitioned to all digital plans, specifications, daily inspection reports, and construction record forms. To accomplish this transition, the City invested in mobile technology for all field staff. The City continues to focus on process and technology improvements to increase efficiency of staff and to be fiscally responsible to all of our property owners.
The CET position is a progressive position allowing for advancement opportunities. There are three levels of CET and placement within this progression upon hire will be dependent on the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and certifications.
Current programing needs are expected to include a CET to assist with our survey/stakeout of construction projects. The management of construction projects from survey to design and through construction is a highly collaborative process that requires everyone’s effort. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual capable of working both independently as well as within a team atmosphere.
