The mission of the Office of Institutional Research is to collect, analyze, interpret, and disseminate trustworthy and official University data and provide leadership for critical data-informed decision-making that supports the strategic goals of the University, the state, and the region. Position Summary:

The Research Analyst (Staff Assistant) is responsible for the analysis and dissemination of institutional data that support decision-making, reporting and planning in the University’s academic and administrative areas. This position will have particular focus on data and analysis to help inform racial equity and justice efforts and strategic enrollment initiatives at BSU.

This is an APA position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 5:00(Evening and weekend hours may be required)(Saturday and Sundays as days off, ability to work some Saturdays as needed)

Position Type: APA Professional

Essential Duties:

• Provide data services to the University by accessing available data sources, extracting and transforming data, and analyzing and summarizing data findings for a wide variety of audiences
• Conduct institutional research studies, perform statistical analyses, interpret research findings, and develop reports and presentations of office research projects using tools and technology including SPSS, Tableau, NVIVO, Qualtrics, or other software
• Prepare, analyze, and disseminate institutional data for external purposes, including requests from government agencies, accrediting bodies, college guidebooks, surveys, and other external agencies
• Develop customized data analyses and Tableau visualizations for internal or external purposes
• Work with IR staff to evaluate data files and ensure the integrity and accuracy of data extracted from various sources, including Banner
• Work with IR staff to validate data for Tableau and University Data Stream reports
• Assist with survey administration, analysis, and dissemination of survey results
• Serve as the administrator for the office BridgeNet site including development of content posted to the web
• Provide support for office budgeting, billing, and ordering of supplies
• Collaborate on research projects and other areas as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Ability to use quantitative skills to understand statistical methods to check and investigate numerical data for practical insights.
• A high level of attention to details is critical. Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills are required. Ability to communicate appropriately and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
• Knowledge of SPSS and Microsoft Office is essential.
• Must be interested in learning new technologies.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of educational research and higher education reporting requirements is preferred.
• Experience building Tableau reports and dashboards preferred. Working knowledge of Banner and business intelligence reporting (ARGOS) preferred.
• Knowledge of higher education principles, practices and procedures preferred.
