Full-Time Venture & Private Equity Associate

Introduction:

This position is part of the U.S International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Office of Equity and Investment Funds (OEIF). As a Venture & Private Equity Associate you will support complex, sensitive, or precedent-setting direct equity investments, and may perform this work in combination with duties that encompass program development and management for an issue/area (region or sector).

Major Duties:

  • As a Venture & Private Equity Associate you will conduct analyses of direct equity proposals to determine their market, competitive, business, and financial viability, including review of financial statements, proforma financial models and valuation analyses.
  • Conduct desk and field visits, correspondence with officials of the host country, industry experts, private firm representatives, Embassy personnel and other sources needed to analyze applications for U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) financing.
  • Prepare investment memos by synthesizing due diligence analysis to present potential investments to various committees for approval.
  • Build financial models and valuation analyses for prospective investments.
  • Support team in sourcing new potential investments, managing deal pipeline, and taking investments from screening, due diligence, structuring, negotiating, to closing. Support team on administrative duties and tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements no later than the closing date of this announcement.

You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service in at least 2 of the following: (1) Experience assisting in conducting direct equity investing, including venture capital, private equity, and/or investment banking; (2) Experience building financial models and valuation analyses; (3) Experience preparing and writing investment memos.

OR

B. A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.M. degree, if related. Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position;

OR

C. A combination of education and experience as listed above.

You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service in at least 3 of the following: (1) Experience assisting in conducting direct equity investing, including venture capital, private equity, and/or investment banking; (2) Experience building financial models and valuation analyses; 3) Experience preparing and writing memos; 4) Experience conducting due diligence on potential direct equity investments.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Additional Information:

Salary will be based upon the locality pay areas, as defined by OPM, and will be adjusted based upon the selectee’s duty location.

Applicants are encouraged to select “location negotiable” as their preferred duty station, if they are interested in a remote opportunity. The option to work out of the DFC’s office in downtown Washington, DC is available to candidates who are interested. If applicants select Washington, DC as their preferred duty station, the selectee may be expected to report to the office and follow the agency’s telework policy.

Telework Suitability: The duties of this position are suitable for telework. The selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval and if they meet the eligibility criterion in the 2010 Telework Act.

Stipulations of Employment: Selection may require completion of a 1-year probationary period.

Work Schedule: This position allows for a flexible work schedule.

Miscellaneous: If selection is made below the full performance level, promotion up to the full performance level may be made without further competition. However, promotion(s) will depend on the performance of the incumbent and are not guaranteed.
