Full-Time Fellow

Job Description

Job Overview

Character Lab is seeking applications from early career individuals, with no more than 3 years of professional experience, to join our team for a year-long fellowship program. We especially encourage applicants who identify as members of historically underrepresented racial, ethnic, gender, age, ability, cultural and/or religious groups to apply for this position. We actively seek individuals who can offer broader perspectives to our organizational thinking and culture, and this fellowship is one of several ways we are working to bring more diverse voices to our organization.

As a Fellow, you will receive an introduction to all aspects of Character Lab by supporting various departments, and have opportunities to discover what field of work aligns with your interests while rapidly developing new skills.

During this fellowship, you will report to the lead of the User Experience team, Tara Taylor, and will work closely with the lead of the the fellowship program, Shelby Billups. Both will act as mentors throughout the program. You will receive their support as you contribute to various projects across Character Lab departments and in your subsequent job search or placement into a new role at Character Lab at the conclusion of the fellowship.

The ideal candidate is an adaptable, critical thinker who takes initiative in everything they do. They are able to successfully manage multiple projects at once, exhibit strong time management, work collaboratively with others, and demonstrate highly effective communication to thrive within our small and dynamic team. Candidates with backgrounds in any field of study and work are encouraged to apply.

About Character Lab

Founded in 2013 by two educators (Dave Levin and Dominic Randolph) and one scientist (Angela Duckworth), Character Lab is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing scientific insights that help kids thrive. Character Lab helps researchers and schools facilitate research to generate scientific insights about the success and well-being of kids. Character Lab supports the translation of those scientific insights through its Playbooks and Tips of the Week, as well as press releases, media kits, and op-ed support and placement. By facilitating and translating research with young people, Character Lab seeks to create greater knowledge about the conditions that lead to social, emotional, academic, and physical well-being for young people throughout the country and share those findings with the adults that support them. To learn more, go to www.characterlab.org.

Our culture is both challenging (we’re never done improving) and supportive (one of our core values is excessive generosity). We are a small, distributed team that maintains high standards for productivity and a strong team culture. Learn more about our values, vision, and history in our Culture Book.
