Youth Services has been a highly-respected part of the Windham County, Vermont community since 1972.  We provide a variety of court diversion and other restorative programs serving adults and youth in our community.  Additionally, we provide services and resources to help youth and families navigate systems, connect to resources and build community.  Youth Services is a supportive, creative, dynamic workplace. 

How this position supports our agency

The Restorative Practices Coordinator plays a key role in Youth Services’ mission to support people to thrive in their communities by: 

  • Establishing efforts that use restorative practices to support individuals and communities impacted by Substance Use Disorder.
  • Collaboratively developing and implementing a new initiative linking harm reduction, restorative practices, and low-barrier housing.
  • Providing direct restorative practices-based facilitation support to individuals living with Substance Use Disorder and those impacted by the criminal legal system.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Specific duties include:

  • Leading restorative circles and additional restorative practices within Groundworks Shelter and permanent supportive housing sites. Employing a variety of restorative practices to develop skills, build community, problem-solve, and repair harm related to substance use issues within the housing communities.
  • Providing training and coaching on restorative practices to interested residents and Windham County Recovery Housing Consortium staff.
  • Collaborating with individuals most impacted by substance use disorder and criminal justice system involvement to design programs, monitor progress, and evaluate work.
  • Establishing program criteria for providing additional conflict resolution supports within the housing communities.
  • Collaborating regularly with other members of Windham County Recovery Housing Consortium, particularly Groundworks Collaborative, HCRS, and Better Life Partners.
  • Collaborating with Groundworks Collaborative to provide clarity around policies, practices, and community agreements, and identify needs and meaningful supports for residents.
  • Providing referrals to other restorative justice programs at Youth Services, where appropriate.
  • Building collaborative relationships with community partners, including law enforcement agencies and first responders and developing Memoranda of Understanding for emergency response, when appropriate. 
  • Ensuring work plan goals and objectives are completed within associated timelines.
  • Ensuring compliance with grant reporting. 
  • Attending monthly Windham County Recovery Housing Consortium meetings. 
  • Participating in Youth Services restorative justice team and broader agency by attending team meetings, staff meetings, and other activities as needed.

Physical Requirements

Job is in an office-based setting, and includes the ability to operate equipment such as computers, phones, and copier. Position may include some travel by automobile. 

 

Education

A degree in social work, restorative justice, or mediation or an equivalent amount of proven and relevant experience. 

Additional Requirements 

  • Experience facilitating restorative justice processes or mediation, virtual facilitation a plus
  • Experience developing new programs
  • Experience with community organizing and outreach
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, writing, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with community members who are in early recovery, are experiencing homelessness, and/or who have recently been incarcerated, and come from diverse racial, economic, and other backgrounds
  • Proficiency with e-mail, phone, Zoom, Microsoft Office and Excel, and Google Docs required
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Travel is required. Must have reliable transportation and motor vehicle insurance coverage.
