Full-Time Community Outreach Specialist

Job Description

Salary: $52,000 – $55,000 per year

One Degree is a completely remote organization, however, this role requires the candidate to be located within the Bay Area and able to attend in-person outreach events within any of the 9 Bay Area counties.

Position Description:

The Community Outreach Specialist encourages and guides our community members to use One Degree (www.1degree.org) to access to life empowering resources both online and in-person. This position will provide comprehensive resource referrals via email and text using the One Degree Referrals tool and through direct outreach to community members in the Bay Area.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

Provide member support online and in-person
Be available on Live Chat 10am – 12pm PT
Support members via email, text, and live chat within 1-3 business days, including resource referrals and troubleshooting technical issues
Build trust with resource-seekers and service providers through personal interaction and relationship building (in person and online)
Schedule, promote and conduct in-person and virtual training for community members and nonprofit professionals across the Bay Area’s 9 counties
Assist with the development and implementation of outreach initiatives
Community outreach to develop and maintain relationships within the local community
Identify and develop relationships with community-based organizations
Help empower community members to navigate One Degree to find resources
Collect and continue updating information for local referral sources in the database

Qualifications:

Strong empathy for underserved communities, lived expertise as a resource-seeker preferred
Incredible attention to detail
Proficient online researcher (Great at Googling!)
Are deeply connected and knowledgeable of the social services in the Bay Area
Experience and/or proficiency in Google or Office suites
Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism, gender and poverty
Love getting and giving meaningful feedback
Willing to travel locally
Ability to build rapport quickly to lower trust barriers and build confidence with community members and local partners
Don’t sacrifice the “good enough” for the “perfect” when “good enough” is the right call
Are a proficient speaker, reader or writer in Spanish (strongly preferred but not required)

Education/Training:

Understanding of the social service landscape, either as a resource-seeker or service provider. In California preferred.
(Preferred) Experience in customer service and/or direct service roles
(Preferred) Teaching or have otherwise conducted trainings/demos/workshops
(Preferred) Understanding of the Bay Area 9-county geography

One Degree is a completely remote organization, with optional in-person social gatherings every 1-2 months and an in-person retreat 1-2 times a year.
