As the research associate, you will support multiple research projects and coordinate research administration within the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy. You will work closely with the project managers of the Lurie Institute to coordinate the research and evaluation projects undertaken by the Institute. The RAI participates substantively in research projects; assists in data collection efforts; assists with preparing institutional review board applications; serves as a liaison to collaborators; assists with preparing reports to funders, coordinates webinars and knowledge translation activities, and other tasks, as needed. Our research actualizes the disability rights motto, “nothing about us, without us.” The RA1 will support disability-led research activities by continuing to involve people with disabilities in research. The RA1 will participate in all phases of research: development of grant proposals, research design, creation of instruments to the preparation of final manuscripts.

The RA1 will support multiple projects, primarily Disparities in Perinatal Care and Outcomes among Black Women and Latinas with Physical Disabilities.

Strong preference will be given to individuals from the disability community.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Conduct administrative tasks to manage the project including tracking deadlines, sending reminders, and ensuring that the project activities and tasks are done in a timely manner
  • Provide general research support and conduct project tasks as required or assigned
  • Maintain contacts and relationships with team members and partners (e.g., workgroup members, partner organization staff), assist with participant recruitment and retention
  • Interact with and collect data from community partners and participants (e.g., staff, stakeholders, project sites, program participants)
  • Create and maintain data management tools (e.g., Excel, SPSS database); enter data into and manage databases
  • Conduct qualitative data analysis
  • Conduct interviews:  Engage with participants, develop a professional relationship, explain study and conduct informed consent process, administer structured interviews, take notes, write up notes and/or transcribe interviews
  • Prepare or assist with preparation and submission of reports, presentations and manuscripts for meetings and conferences
  • Assist with IRB applications, consent forms, project descriptions and similar materials
  • Manage bibliographic database and conduct literature reviews

Education and Work Experience

Master’s degree plus 1-3 years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years of experience

What you need to succeed

Excellent attention to detail and time management, ability to prioritize multiple tasks plan work to meet deadlines, problem solve, and take initiative

Skilled use of standard computer programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willing to learn new programs (e.g., qualitative data software, bibliographic software)

Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal skills, and highly organized

Able to be flexible in schedule occasionally (e.g., for proposal deadlines, off-hour interviews)

Able to work independently and as part of a team

Must be able to travel locally and to occasional out-of-state meetings/conferences

Works under supervision of project director or other senior staff

Some health/behavioral health interest, with research and/or interview experience preferred
