Brescia University College campus is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Haundenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Chonnonton Nations. Brescia is currently seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to fill a position as:

RESEARCH OFFICER

(Permanent Full-time)

Hourly Rate – $32.66, Level 7

Reporting to the Provost, the Research Officer fosters and maintains a vibrant research culture at Brescia by providing both faculty researcher and institutional support. The Research Officer provides comprehensive support for funding applications submitted by faculty researchers and provides administrative support for the Brescia Research Ethics Board. In addition, the Research Officer plans education and training initiatives for faculty and students covering a variety of topics including research ethics, research communication, funding opportunities and processes, and policies/procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Builds relationships with faculty researchers to support their individual research goals, including funding, ethics, publication, and communication needs
  • Regularly scans for funding opportunities for specific disciplines, or student researcher groups, and communicates opportunities to researchers
  • Works with and advises faculty researchers in writing, editing, and preparing external funding applications, including budgeting according to guidelines, policies, and requirements
  • Reviews and assesses funding applications for compliance with policies
  • Keeps up to date on laws and policies affecting research process and funding opportunities
  • Scans, identifies, communicates, and facilitates research partnerships between faculty researchers
  • Creates and disseminates all communications and promotional materials originating from the Research Office
  • Solicits, collects, designs, and shares tools to communicate research happenings at Brescia
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local and dispersed research office counterparts
  • Liaises with subject matter experts in federal funding offices and internal departments to gather information, facilitate grant dispersal etc.
  • Acts as the Brescia contact for funding agencies, including but not limited to the Tri-Council Agencies, and serves as the intermediary between the funder/sponsor and faculty researchers
  • Organizes and administers the materials, policy, documentation, and meetings of the Brescia Research Ethics Board as well as the communication of application decisions and processes to faculty researchers
  • Designs, organizes, and facilitates events, including research celebration days and research themed presentations for student recruitment days
  • Administers the internal grant process and internal research award process
  • Maintains all research-related records, data, and databases, e.g., ethics applications, ethics application feedback, ethics status for research projects, funding applications, monies, faculty productivity statistics, faculty researchers’ areas of expertise
  • Acts as the main contact for the Research Data Management (RDM) Strategy, working collaboratively with the Provost and Director of Library Services to implement the Strategy and expand RDM education and supports at Brescia

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree from a research discipline; PhD-level research experience considered an asset
  • Graduate- level research training and experience in methods, ethics, statistics, and data management
  • Experience in and knowledge of current human research ethics policies and documentation.
  • Knowledge and experience with federal Tri-Council research funding programs; information-seeking expertise to identify additional funding sources and opportunities
  • Experience with high- level analysis and writing, including writing for publication and varied audiences
  • Experience with education/training and speaking to groups of varied sizes
  • Experience with project management
  • Knowledge of Western University system REB requirements will be considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels within and outside the university
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
