Title: Communications Coordinator/Project Manager

FTE: Full-time

Location: Remote, occasional travel required

Reports to: Communications Director

Salary Range: $70k–75k annually, with full health benefits for employee and dependents, employer-funded retirement plan, remote work stipend, and 28 days of vacation

 

THE MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) formed in December 2014 was created as a space for Black organizations across the country to debate and discuss the current political conditions; develop shared assessments of the political interventions necessary to achieve key policy, cultural, and political wins; and convene organizational leadership to deliberate on and co-create a shared movement-wide strategy. Today, M4BL is an ecosystem of more than 150 Black-led organizations representing thousands of Black people from across the country that have come together with renewed energy, strategy, and purpose to articulate a common vision and agenda. Our ecosystem is united by core values and politics that seek to build an anti-capitalist, abolitionist, and Black queer feminist future.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

M4BL’s communications team is hiring a project coordinator. This position will assist with coordinating the communications team and provide administrative support for programmatic work.

The ideal candidate is someone both creative and tech-savvy, a self-starter who can help research and implement tools to reach and organize Black audiences online. They will work across campaigns and teams to support M4BL and M4BL’s organizational members in growing our supporter base, politicizing new supporters effectively, and documenting our success and growth areas.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Team Coordination
    • Coordinate weekly meetings for the communications team and maintain minutes or notes schedule
    • Coordinate logistics for in-person and virtual gatherings
    • Organize, manage, and archive all necessary communications materials, notes, data, editorial calendar, and plans
    • Work with communications director and staff to organize and manage project expenses and department budget; assist communications director with tracking team credit-card expenses
    • Assist communications leadership team with expense monitoring,  processing invoices, and vendor management
    • Manage all scheduling needs for communications director and communications department
    • Assist with other administrative tasks as needed
  • Programmatic Communications Support
    • Manage communications-team email
    • Assist communications-team leadership with onboarding new staff and contractors; be point of contact for ongoing organizational support
    • Coordinate logistics for various communications-team ecosystem trainings
    • Assist with compilation of daily clips for social-media and media tracking/coverage reports
    • Build and maintain press lists and spokesperson database
    • Coordinate the development of meeting agendas and presentations as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate is extremely organized while also interested in learning more about communications work (digital, design, earned media, etc) and narrative power–building. They also possess:

  • The ability to juggle multiple priorities and projects
  • The ability to adapt to change, prioritize multiple tasks effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Good writing, editing, and proofreading skills, or interest in further developing these skills
  • A solutions-oriented work ethic
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, approaching issues with an objective mindset, as well as the ability to work independently
  • Time-management skills and the ability to quickly pivot on the basis of current events and organizational needs
  • A steadfast commitment to collective liberation and a Black queer feminist, abolitionist, and anti-capitalist politic
