Job Description

THE POSITION

This recruitment is to fill a Librarian position to oversee the Bookmobile program and the Adult Literacy Program. Candidate must be willing and able to drive a 32-foot Bookmobile. This position may include night and weekend hours.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Woodland Public Library is seeking a team-orientated, enthusiastic, and forward thinking Librarian to provide oversight, development, and implementation of programs and services related to our new Bookmobile Library program and our Adult Literacy Program. Successful candidates will be flexible, energetic, dedicated to customer service, positive, and excited to oversee and drive Woodland Public Library’s 32-foot Bookmobile throughout the City’s neighborhoods, to special events, schools, and other destinations. The position works in collaboration with the Library Director and Librarians to help the Library provide free and equitable access to information, and informative and dynamic programming. This is an outward facing position.  The Ideal Candidate enjoys working with and developing relationships with the public, schools, and other City organizations.  The ability to speak and understand Spanish is highly desirable.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of young adult’s, children’s, adult and other library programs and services.  Assess patron needs and advise them in making effective use of library resources and services; assist patrons of all ages by answering reference questions and selecting print and non-print materials.  Organize, maintain and index a variety of reference materials.  As a Children’s Librarian: Plan, organize and present children’s programs including storytelling, book readings, video showings, crafts, and puppet shows, family programs and classes on children’s literature and parenting; provide outreach programs to city schools.  Review new publications and collection materials and select materials for acquisition and/or disposition as appropriate.  Regular and consistent attendance.  Work cooperatively with others.  Prepare publicity, coordinate the publication of brochures and coordinate the dissemination of library program publicity.  Attend and represent the library at professional meetings as required.  Compile library activity reports and statistics; assist in preparing the library budget.  Plan, direct and supervise the work of staff involved in assigned library section.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education

Librarian I and II:  Possession of a Master of Library Sciences Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

Librarian I:  No experience required.

Librarian II: Two (2) years performing duties comparable to those of a Librarian I in the City of Woodland.

 BENEFITS

Current Salary:                       Librarian I       $4,928.90 – $6,290.65 per month

Librarian II      $5,440.57 – $6,943.70 per month

Retirement:                             CalPERS Retirement System (2% @ 60 Formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 Formula for new CalPERS members)

The City does not participate in social security

Deferred Comp:                     Choice of deferred compensation plans (Traditional and Roth).

City will match up to 2% of employee’s base salary

Medical:                                  CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs & PPOs

City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance

Maximum family allowance for 2022 is $2,195.79 per month

Dental / Vision:                       City paid Delta Dental and Medical Eye Services

STD / LTD:                             City paid wage protection for short and long term disabilities

Life Insurance:                        City provides $50,000 life insurance policy

Supplemental Benefits:         Voluntary Supplemental Life, Cancer and Accident Only insurances, Critical Illness and Flexible Spending Accounts available

Vacation:                                 7 hours per month during first 3 years of service

Sick Leave:                             8 hours per month

Administrative Leave:            96 hours of leave time per fiscal year

Holidays:                                 12.5 paid holidays (including two floating holidays)

Prof. Growth Incentive:          $625 per fiscal year for additional educational or professional activities
