Job Description

Gryphon Scientific’s Biosafety, Biosecurity, and Emerging Technology practice area is seeking a senior analyst with experience in biosafety or biotechnology. Successful candidates will primarily support Gryphon’s projects in biosafety and biosecurity funded by the US federal government, the World Health Organization and our philanthropic donors. Depending on the skill set and experience of the successful applicant, their role may be focused on engaging with international clients, training, evaluating biological risks, operationalizing biosafety and biosecurity measures or research. A good candidate will have experience in one of these aspects of biosafety/biosecurity and be conversant in many aspects.

Senior Analysts work with Gryphon Scientists, Program Managers, and Principal Investigators, as well as government program managers and staff. Senior Analysts are typically supported by Analysts and Research Assistants (RAs), who gather data, perform preliminary analysis, and draft technical documents.

All positions at Gryphon Scientific require critical thinking, problem-solving, and both quantitative and qualitative analysis to address national policy and technical questions in a wide range of fields. You may participate in other projects, outside of the projects described above, that focus on public health and safety, emergency management, homeland security, and emerging technologies, including projects of national and global importance. Each project is an opportunity to think, research, organize and write in new ways.

Duties

Technical Performance

Write clear and concise summary biosafety and biosecurity guidance documents and draft policies
Examples of documents developed with Gryphon Scientific support include: WHO-Global-Action-Plan-for-Poliovirus-Containment-GAPIV.pdf (polioeradication.org)
Conduct literature-based research and perform policy analysis of scientific information, engineering data, commercial information and government policies Develop and execute training on biorisk management for learners throughout the globe
Interact and cultivate relationships with government, private sector and NGO stakeholders from around the world (in-person, via teleconference or over email) to understand their requirements, limitations and needs for improving biorisk management
Plan, organize, and execute activities with multiple stakeholder groups
Attend scientific and biosafety/biosecurity conferences and build Gryphon’s reputation and your own reputation in the biorisk management space.

Managerial Responsibilities

Serve as a task leader on projects related to biosafety and biosecurity
Provide project direction, manage timelines, and produce final on-time deliverables
Supervise and mentor Analysts, RAs, and Interns on projects that you are leading

Communication

Strong writing skills—be able to draft well-written and concise portions of guidance documents and draft policies
Strong interpersonal skills—be able to interface professionally with clients and stakeholder from various backgrounds, cultures and technical sophistication
Emerging/developing presentation skills—be able to communicate Gryphon’s work to diverse audience

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have experience in biosafety, in at least one of the following aspects:
Writing biosafety guidance documents
Training on biosafety principles
Performing biorisk management
Developing biosafety policies
Providing biosafety oversight and guidance
BA/S and 10+ years of experience in related field or a MS and 5+ years of experience or a PhD and 2+ years of experience
U.S. citizenship is required due to government client requirements.
