Full-Time Purchasing Manager

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Purchasing Manager within our Northfield Metal Products team to help support our Work Furniture business.  In our Furniture Components business, we design, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of components and finished products that enhance comfort, motion, and style in the work and home furniture industry.  From surface-critical bent tube assemblies and molded plywood components to chair mechanisms, bases, arms, seats, and backs, our Furniture Components business brings diverse world-class manufacturing capabilities together in the production and assembly of high-quality products.  If you join our team, your work will ensure people across the world have a little more comfort in their lives.

As a Purchasing Manager, you will have the opportunity to develop comprehensive plans to deliver the lowest overall total cost of externally sourced production material. You will ensure mutually beneficial relationships are developed and maintained with supplier partners and your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by benchmarking industry best practices.  The team you will be working with has a long tenure and values collaboration.

So, what will you be doing as a(n) Purchasing Manager?

  • Play an active leadership role in all facets of procurement, logistics, inventory management, supply chain management, material handling, continuous improvement/LEAN Manufacturing principles and EH&S
  • Play a key role in the sourcing process for current products as well as supporting sourcing activities for new products
  • Partner with the Branch Manager on procurement activities
  • Track and monitor branch procurement metrics and implement action plans to drive strategy and KPI improvement
  • Perform market analysis and spend analysis leveraging all available data sources – accounting, purchasing, payment systems, suppliers, market trends etc. to provide insight into opportunities for savings and efficiencies
  • Drive continuous improvement and standardization throughout procurement policies and processes
  • Apply risk management expertise in executing sourcing strategies.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a Supply Chain or Procurement, with global responsibilities
  • Experience in a Manufacturing environment
  • In-depth knowledge of supply chain business processes improvement experience (i.e bill of materials, routing, work centers, etc.), supply chain (production and demand planning, forecasting, scheduling, inventory management, logistics, procurement and sales), and operations
  • Strong proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office. Ability to leverage technology to solve business problems, where applicable
  • Professional with strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills and the ability to lead cross-functional collaborative initiatives
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and trouble shooting skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement. Results oriented with strong sense of urgency
  • Excellent skills in negotiation

Things we consider a plus:

  • Post-Secondary Education from an accredited university/college in a related field (e.g. Supply Chain, Materials Management, Business, Operations, Procurement, or Technical field)
