Communications Officer
New Engineering Education Transformation (NEET) in the MIT School of Engineering seeks a communications officer to work with its leadership, faculty, instructors, and NEET scholars (students) and be proactively out there in the NEET student community. Will develop and implement communications, marketing, and outreach efforts promoting NEET to industry, the general public, faculty, and prospective and current students. NEET is a three-year opt-in program for undergraduates and requires promotion to first years (rising sophomores) to recruit them for NEET’s three threads. The responsibilities of the communications officer will include managing, creating, and measuring website and social media content; conceptualizing, creating, writing, and/or editing a variety of content for multiple channels/projects; and serving as the media relations contact, facilitating MIT News coverage, and working with other communication officers at MIT.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field
- Five years’ communications experience, including content creation, social media channels, web platforms, digital communications, project coordination, and media relations, preferably in science/technology fields
- Excellent project coordination, editorial, content development, copy editing (AP or CMS styles), proofreading, fact-checking, ATD, and written and oral communication skills
- High-level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite and with Weblium, Slack, Airtable, Dropbox, and Google Drive or their equivalents
- Experience crafting compelling PowerPoint presentations
- Strong research and interviewing skills
- Self-motivation and ability to work independently
- Ability to develop, assess, and synthesize information and translate complex scientific concepts for a general audience
- Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to collaborate collegially as part of a team
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience at an R1 institution
- Industry experience
This is, at minimum, a three-year position (extensions possible) that will renew one year at a time.
