Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Sergeant-at-Arms department is seeking three detail-oriented, diplomatic, and customer service-oriented individuals for the auxiliary as-and-when required position of Sessional Officer.

Reporting to the Gallery, Chamber, Corridor, or Mailroom Supervisor, the Sessional Officers facilitate and control access of MLAs and others who have legitimate access to the Chamber, galleries, corridors, and/or committee rooms, and provide security-related duties during House sittings and committee meetings. They prepare the Chamber, galleries, corridors, associated rooms, and facilities for use and secure them afterwards. The position must be cognizant of the high profile of the Legislature and ensure all undertaken issues are handled with tact and discretion and follow protocol.

Sessional Officers work a fluctuating work schedule. Work hours can fall between 8:30am and 7:00pm, Mondays through Thursdays, when the House is in session, however, work is only available on an as needed basis when the house is not in session. For more information about the sessional schedule, please view the parliamentary calendar on our website https://www.leg.bc.ca/parliamentary-business/parliamentary-calendar#byyear2021.
