Director, Education Services

Full-time: 40 Hours per week

 

SUMMARY

The Director of Education services will be primarily responsible for overseeing the ESOL program at the Rian Immigrant Center.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee ESOL classes, ESOL conversation groups, Tech Goes Home computer classes, Individual Achievement Program (IAP), and citizenship tutoring program
  • Demonstrate a commitment to social justice and equity; actively participate in Rian’s efforts toward being an anti-racist organization; and value, promote, and integrate anti-racist ideas and policies into one’s work
  • Manage, supervise, recruit, train and evaluate program staff, volunteers, interns and co-ops
  • Ensure education program goals are met; lead program, curriculum and outcomes logic model development
  • Set and monitor ESOL attendance goals and retention; coordinate student referrals
  • Oversee student intakes, wait-lists, class and conversation group assignments, class scheduling, student surveys, and pre- and post-assessments in ESOL courses
  • Coordinate Chromebook loaner program and student ed tech support for remote learning
  • Manage education data in Salesforce; generate and organize reports; manage budget
  • Lead education staff meetings; promote professional development of staff, interns and co-ops; coordinate peer teaching observations
  • Collect student success stories to share with development and leadership teams
  • Work collaboratively with other program directors and staff to ensure integration of services between programs; support organizational leadership team by participating in regular meetings
  • Assist development team; prepare bi-monthly internal reports; prepare external reports; collect student documentation for grant reporting
  • Work with the Executive Director and Program Consultant to ensure education program goals align to the strategic plan, state guidelines and Rian’s outcomes logic model
  • Teach one ESOL class (4-5 contact hours per week) during fall and spring semesters in accordance with Rian curriculum guidelines

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enthusiastic commitment to the overall mission and values of Rian
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching ESOL to adults in a community-based setting and/or leading an adult ESOL program
  • Experience with curriculum development and adult ESOL assessment
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with the highest level of discretion
  • Strong computer and data management skills
  • Expertise with Google Suite as well as online teaching/learning platforms
  • Intercultural sensitivity, adaptability, a sense of humor, flexibility, empathy; ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines, and student-centered commitment to removing barriers to inequity in education and student career development
  • BA degree in adult education or related field, required
  • MA or certification in adult TESOL, preferred
  • Fluency in a language other than English, (especially Spanish, French or Haitian Creole) preferred

 

Status: Exempt
