Full-Time Director of Business Development

Job Description

Guru seeks a new business rainmaker. You’ll have experience talking marketing with CMOs and Directors of Marketing, great listening skills, authentic relationship skills, and the uncanny ability to ask the right questions to unearth a company’s marketing needs. You’ll be a driven sales person – able to mine opportunities, sell our value, and build long-term prospecting relationships. But you’ll also be aligned with Guru’s goals and criteria – and our mission to make the world a better place. 

Must have a solid track record of success in the marketing agency landscape – with both your own warm contact list and the tenacity of cold calling. 

Location: We welcome your remote (but U.S.-based) location, as we are a virtual team with employees across the United States and hubs in California and Burlington, VT. 

The priorities for this role include:

  • Lead end-to-end new business strategy, from prospecting through execution, taking ownership of short and long term revenue plans.
  • Source RFP engines, and manage RFP process, working in close partnership with strategy and creative to present compelling, thoughtful proposals that demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of both client’s goals and our value.
  • Be the first point of contact as a strategic partner for prospective clients, leveraging a deep understanding of our capabilities and success stories, brainstorming ideas on how we can provide solutions to their business goals through our ecosystem.
  • Leverage contacts (yours and ours), cold calling, strategic partnerships, creative marketing, and comprehensive research to secure meetings with new partners.
  • Collaborate with leadership on building innovative strategies and capabilities to maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Instigate and manage proactive agency marketing efforts.

  • Able to build authentic, long-term relationships.
  • Have exceptional written and interpersonal skills.
  • Work well in a team, but be self-directed enough to work alone, given our remote culture.
  • Possess incredible time management skills that allow you to prioritize across multiple clients. 
  • Be able to work under high pressure deadlines
  • Inspires respect and is respectful of others.
  • Deep understanding of multichannel marketing, hybrid background of sales and marketing a plus.
