Role

Verus Mortgage Capital is seeking a flexible, motivated Quality Assurance and Testing Analyst to thrive in a fast-paced development environment.  We’re a fast-growing company and we need your help to test our applications and processes across an array of technical solutions on multiple platforms.  We’re looking for someone who combines a strong appetite for QA testing and analysis with a willingness to dig into problems, take ownership for finding solutions, and then deliver well-documented test plans and results/findings.

The QA Analyst will be the primary driver for creating and executing test plans for the Application Development and Technology/Data team.  The ability to create and execute thorough, comprehensive test plans is essential to this role, as are excellent written/verbal communication skills and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Technology teams and business stakeholders/users.   Adaptability is a giant plus in this role, and you’ll be challenged to work with our business partners and technology colleagues to create and document test plans and results – you will be the conduit for all the information necessary for us to ensure that we are building appropriate and effective solutions.  Candidates must possess the interpersonal skills to facilitate cohesive work relationships with both internal and external partners at various levels.  The ability to work and thrive both independently and collaboratively within an entrepreneurial small-team environment is a must.

Accountabilities

  • Participate in requirement-gathering sessions and create system specification documents
  • Working from requirements, create a testing plan to address high-business-value items and configure acceptance criteria statements that are immediately actionable by the testing/development team
  • Analyze and evaluate current IT systems and procedures to recommend solutions
  • Participate in creation and execution of regression and system test plans as required, including ensuring that new apps or code do not disrupt existing apps, data warehouses, Power BI service, or other integration points
  • Work with end users as required to assist with user acceptance testing
  • Identify issues and risks and provide alternative courses of action to achieve business and organization goals and objectives
  • Build, develop, and grow relationships with business users and other stakeholders in order to establish mutual trust
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and business partners to understand business challenges and opportunities
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of system and process documentation that necessary to support processes
  • Participate in defining and implementing best practices for business analysis
  • Assemble and analyze data for reports from LMS, ensuring the accuracy of data and calculations

Education and Experience

  • High School education or equivalent or demonstrated experience in an analytical discipline such as information systems, computer science, engineering, or similar field

Required Skills/ Abilities

  • Two or more years of experience in a Testing/QA environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – the ability to write crisp, understandable documentation for test plans and results is key. Additionally, the skill to deliver oral presentations or in-person reviews of findings or plans will be important.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Designing test plans, scenarios, scripts, and procedures
  • Proficiency in assessing software quality through manual/automated testing, including finding and reporting bugs and glitches and ultimately working with development team to correct defects
  • Analyzing test results and reporting to the development team
  • Executing test on source code or in User Interface/Application
  • Excellent customer service and independent time-management skills
  • Collaborative ethic and desire to work well within a diverse group
  • Strong quantitative background with demonstrated ability in QA testing
  • A solid background in and working knowledge of test management software, programming languages, and QA methodologies
  • Proficiency in use of a ticket-tracking system – experience in DevOps is a major plus
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Two to five years of QA Testing or related experience (work with application testing is a giant plus)
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Problem-solving skills and flexibility to try new and different approaches as needed to overcome obstacles
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply QA or other software tools to business procedures and processes

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with creating and executing test plans for Applications is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency and comfort to understand and/or code in various languages (e.g. VBA, Python, C#, SQL etc.)
  • General understanding of the mortgage origination process, the secondary mortgage market, securitization, and mortgage servicing. Experience working with servicing and mortgage data is a plus.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g. SQL Server, including use of T-SQL) , including writing ad-hoc queries and building out custom reporting in SQL.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages is a plus.
