Technical Designer – Infrastructure and Networking

Permanent Position

Information Technology Department

Reporting to the Manager Infrastructure and Security, this position is responsible for the following:

  • Develop proposed architectures in keeping with corporate objectives, standards, strategies, and goals
  • Ensure IT infrastructure and networking  policies, procedures and standards to be implemented and followed for enterprise solutions
  • Produce and maintain architectural documentation and diagrams in keeping with corporate objectives, standards, strategies and goals
  • Provide new product ideas – innovations, recommendations on new and emerging technologies, existing infrastructure, technology prototypes and process improvements
  • Work with other Technical Designers to ensure Infrastructure, Security, Application and Data standards and industry best practices are followed
  • Manage network hardware and equipment including routers, switches, wireless , WAF, VPN, NAC and firewalls and IPS/IDS
  • Design and maintain backup and recovery solutions, perform disaster recovery planning processes, execution and testing
  • Manage Active Directory and O365 architecture design, implementation and best practices
  • Work independently, prioritize and multitask in a dynamic environment, adapt quickly to change and manages multiple projects simultaneously
  • Work with third party vendors to develop solutions that meet the technical, functional and business requirements outlined by the Infrastructure and Security team­
  • Action change management documentation
  • Participate in on-call support

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Two (2) to three (3) year post-secondary diploma in computer studies or Computer Science
  • Minimum seven (7) years Information technology field
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in coordinating and/or supervising IT projects
  • In-depth understanding of network and wireless architecture, implementation strategies and security best practices
  • In-depth understanding of storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles and practices
  • Experience with virtualization technologies and disaster recovery planning, processes, execution and testing
  • Experience with network security solutions, such as firewalls, VPN gateways , NAC  and intrusion detection systems
  • Experience with Cisco security line of products or other vendor equivalencies
  • Experience with system integration, system planning, security and software management best practices
  • Experience with Active Directory design, implementation and best practices
  • Experience and knowledge of standard business solutions, software, hardware and database systems
  • Experience with development of application, data, network and infrastructure architecture deliverables
  • Experience with backup and restore technologies
  • Knowledge of Microsoft O365 architecture and security and hybrid email environments
  • Project Management skills is a definite asset
  • Cisco certification(s) is a definite asset
  • Work with 3rd party vendors to develop solutions that meet the technical, functional and business requirements outlined by the Infrastructure and Security team
  • Strong Written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
  • Proven analytical, creative problem solving and collaborative decision making abilities
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, customer service and teambuilding skills
  • Mentor and assistance all team members in an effort to foster growth and development

Salary:               CG 42: $70,561.40 – $83,155.80
