Built is hiring an Engineering Manager, reporting to the VP, Engineering. This position is equal parts people leader and technical leader, happy to roll up your sleeves and dive into code with the team when needed, and responsible for the health of engineering teams, teammates, and technical deliverables.
Engineering Managers are servant leaders who are responsible for ensuring the health and culture of their engineering teams, advancing Built through the growth of people and the progress of teams, and collaborating across teams to ensure that technical solutions are delivered on time and with integrity.

Leading people:

Managing technical work and business outcomes:

    • Build delivery plans and release schedules for our future initiatives.
    • Manage expectations, change management, delivery, and communication for our deliverables.
    • Balance team resourcing, capacity, and capability against both current needs and growth.
    • Partner with senior leadership and finance to predict and model growth of your teams.
    • Partner with Product Management to manage our roadmap and highlight opportunities and needs.
    • Overall goal is to deliver the right solutions, on time, and with integrity.

Success is ultimately measured by the ability to consistently and predictably deliver improvements, iterations, and innovations, through and across multiple engineering teams, with an equal emphasis on product quality, customer satisfaction, and team pride.

    • Slice product problems into small, valuable, end-to-end deliverables or experiments with the engineering teams that will deliver the work
    • In partnership with Principal Engineers and Product Managers, translate product problems into documented, diagramed technical solutions
    • Contribute to the team’s success and deliver in time with integrity!

The primary activities of an Engineering Manager are:

    • Own – Accountability for and ownership of technical deliverables, software quality, estimation and project timelines.
    • Lead – Be the ultimate team player – humble, hungry, and smart. Set the highest possible example for professional conduct, demonstrating how to lead by influence to the extent possible. Participate in the team’s culture of quality and delivery by doing code reviews, helping fix bugs or improve performance, learning and using the tools and applications.
    • Guide – Regularly assess teammate health, document career plans and evidence of growth, and privately provide direct feedback. Collaborate with the Directors on plans for teammate advancement and changes in compensation.
    • Deliver – Ensure the engineers, including Engineering Leads, have the skills and confidence to work with the tools, methodologies, and business domain necessary to do their jobs well. Own the predictability of delivery and the quality of engineering team deliverables.
    • Retain – Professional development and training through regular 1:1 meetings with engineering teammates. Partner with them in building to skills to reach their goals. Align them with other teams and educational opportunities, including peer mentoring.
    • Recruit – “A healthy team is always hiring.” Collaborate with the Talent Manager to represent Built Engineering in the community and actively maintain relationships with potential candidates that have an interest in Built.
