Your role

Our HR Business Consulting team is looking for its newest French-speaking HR Business Partner to join the team that supports our National French Services Newsroom. (This includes news and current affairs show on both radio and television.).This is an opportunity to join the Montreal-based team to support CBC/Radio-Canada leaders predominantly in Montreal.

As a passionate Human Resources Business Partner, you will partner with the management teams to build and to ensure the success of their people strategies. With an exceptional ability to build trusting relationships at any level, you thrive in being the first point of contact and support for Human Resources and Industrial Relations issues and support. You take a proactive, consultative approach to providing creative solutions and demonstrating sound judgments, while spearheading organizational development and change management initiatives.

Career growth. As part of the People & Culture team, you provide essential support to CBC/Radio-Canada on a national level. You will have the chance to be strategic, take on new projects aligning the needs of your business group with HR management and the greater people and culture strategy of the corporation. As part of a matrixed, unionized and non-unionized environment, you will gain insights to grow your career while influencing the effectiveness, inclusivity, and positive atmosphere of Canada’s national media company.

As our new HR Business Partner, you will: 

  • Advise and support. You will coach and guide senior managers to ensure the professional development of their team, consulting on performance management, industrial relations, organizational development, training, compensation, and staffing.
  • Build relationships. You will create and nurture trusting and influential partnerships with senior managers, and your peers. You will ensure productive union-management relations by maintaining effective working relationships with union representatives locally.
  • Support and execute plans. You will help implement HR, people, and culture initiatives that align with the organizational strategic plans. You will help build out career pathing for senior team members who don’t want to follow a management path.
  • Collaborate. You will be the bridge between your managers and corporate initiatives such as talent review and succession planning. You will apply your insights and expertise to partner and navigate collective agreements and policies that need interpretation for a newsroom environment.

We are looking for a candidate with the following: 

  • The experience. You have a university degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations. You have 3+ years of experience as an HR generalist, business partner, and consultant working in a matrixed environment, both virtual and onsite. You have a comprehensive understanding of Human Resources functions with expertise in employee relations and program development.
  • The knowledge. You have an in-depth understanding of collective agreements, working in a unionized environment, and the Canadian Labour Code.
  • The accountability. You have a sincere passion for your profession, and building human-to-human relationships to grow an understanding of the needs of your people and the organization. You thrive in a coaching role, working with managers and leaders to facilitate an exemplary work environment for their teams. You draw on insights, experience, and best practices to make and stand behind your recommendations. You believe in cultivating a mutually supportive, diverse, and inclusive work environment. You can seamlessly adapt to changes in priorities, the business, or the industry. You have the confidence to take new ideas forward and productively challenge the status quo.
  • The collaboration. You take ownership of your work and its impact on the company’s ability to be successful. You have a genuine appreciation for hearing diverse perspectives, and you prioritize inclusivity in all actions, words, and policies. You have a collaborative spirit and can build productive relationships across the organization, respecting the structure in place for projects and ownership.
  • The communication skills. You have flexible communication skills. You ask intelligent questions to obtain information, identify root causes, and determine solutions. You have exceptional relationship management, conflict management, and negotiation abilities.
  • The flexibility. You are willing and able to work 2-3 days on-site in our Montreal office, with the remainder remotely once the pandemic restrictions are lifted. While COVID-19 continues to pose a health and safety risk, you will predominantly work from home but may be asked to work on-site 1 day a week with full protection measures in place, and in adherence to all provincial and federal limits.
