Part-Time Public Events and Partnerships Manager
Job Description
We are seeking an organised and motivated Public Events and Partnerships Manager to contribute to our work as the UK’s charity for the advancement of literature, engaging the public in great writing and extending the RSL’s partnerships across the UK and beyond. The Society has a strong team ethic, and the successful applicant will work towards the organisation’s wider aims, identifying areas for growth and development of their work alongside colleagues and Trustees.
In November 2020 the RSL launched its five-year 200th birthday festival, RSL 200. Over the coming years, the RSL 200 will explore, interrogate and reimagine the UK’s literary landscape as we celebrate the best in British writing, past, present and future. Through the festival, the RSL will continue to share literature with the greatest number of people across the UK and beyond, showing the power of literature to shape society and to change and individual life through new and continuing programmes.
Main aims of the post
- To engage the public in literature by programming and delivering the RSL’s high-quality public literary events, as well as events for supporters and Fellows, and Awards and Prizes events, online and in person, when safe to do so.
- To work with the Engagement and Participation Manager to engage young people in literature in the RSL public events programme.
- To ensure that the diversity of RSL events activities is foundational in programming.
- To manage the RSL’s events and broadcast partnerships and develop further programme partnerships in line with the RSL’s strategy.
- To assist the Director in raising funds to support the public events programme, e.g., by liaising with event sponsors and making funding applications to trusts and foundations.
Main duties
- Working alongside the Director and the Programmes Committee of the RSL’s governing Council to programme RSL public events. To work collaboratively, finding creative, sensitive, and enjoyable ways of engaging Trustees, Fellows, and partner organisations in programming events.
- To work with the Director and Communications Manager, the Programmes Committee, and the Council, in identifying new event partnerships to develop the RSL’s audiences. To work with the Communications Manager to develop, diversify and expand the RSL’s audiences across all activities.
- To work with the Engagement and Participation Manager to engage new audiences for RSL events programmes.
- To work with the RSL Communications Manager, freelance designer and partner organisations to produce the events programme; writing compelling copy for events listings in print and online.
- To work with the RSL Communications Manager, Programmes Assistant, Marketing and Administration Assistant and PR company to publicise and promote RSL events.
- To engage, liaise with, and brief speakers for RSL events programmes. To prepare and keep records of speaker agreements, in line with RSL speaker policies.
- To manage all logistics of the RSL’s online and in-person events programmes, including managing virtual platforms, registrations, speakers’ travel and accommodation,
- venue hire, AV, British Sign Language interpreters, speaker and venue contracts, photographers, recordings, event dinners and drinks receptions.
- To work with the RSL Communications Manager and Programmes Assistant on the production and publicising of online event recordings, released to the public.
- To take an active lead in ensuring that RSL events are accessible to all audiences.
- To manage guestlists and run events for Awards and Prizes, working with the General Manager and Awards and Prizes freelance staff.
- With support from team colleagues, to organise effective fundraising events, such as drinks receptions or dinners.
Salary: £29,500-£31,500 pro rata, dependent on experience
Terms: Part-time, three days per week, one-year contract with opportunity to extend
Place of work: Mix of office (based in central London) and homeworking
