Full-Time Marketing Director, Algonquin and Algonquin Young Readers

Job Description

Algonquin and Algonquin Young Readers are seeking an innovative, experienced, and successful Marketing Director to oversee the marketing team for both imprints. The ideal candidate will bring direct experience with the marketing of adult and juvenile literary fiction and nonfiction and be a team- and goal-oriented manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead the marketing strategy for the Algonquin Books and Algonquin Young Readers imprints
• Supervise and mentor a team of 4 marketers on the execution of all industry and consumer-facing campaigns for approximately 50-60 new titles and associated reprints per year
• Develop and oversee title-by-title marketing campaigns and advertising plans for 10-15 major titles each year, managing budgets for each campaign
• Communicate detailed campaign information across departments and present campaigns in key meetings
• Execute best practices for metadata for both front and backlist titles, developing a strategic plan for ongoing marketing of Algonquin’s backlist
• Develop content for campaigns including all ad creative, sell sheets, digital assets for retailers and social media, and more
• Develop and oversee all marketing budgets
• Oversee creation of seasonal catalogs
• Work collaboratively with sales colleagues and editors and communicate directly with authors and agents to maximize campaign effectiveness including increasing social media presence and building author brand
• Incorporate and analyze data to refine advertising, promotion and social media strategies while keeping up-to-date on new platforms and marketing methods
• Pitch organizations, social media influencers, and partners for cross-promotional opportunities
• Oversee industry and consumer-facing imprint branding efforts
• Maintain Algonquin’s longstanding relationships with the indies while also targeting all other retail outlets
• Identify opportunities for enhancing and improving imprint campaigns—new tools, platforms, partners, outlets, best practices, marketing trends, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive marketing management experience with a keen understanding of title marketing and interest in a wide variety of books for adults and young readers
• Demonstrated leadership, project management, budget management, organizational, and prioritization skills
• Strong creative vision and brand building experience
• Proven ability to create strong integrated campaigns, including traditional as well as paid social, programmatic and search advertising strategies
• Knowledge of the changing book marketing landscape and analytical skillsets to optimize campaigns for ROI and develop audience insights and targeting strategies that reach existing fans while always looking to expand the audience
• Knowledge of metadata best practices and ability to optimally position books on retailer sites and in search
• Ability to conceive unique marketing positions and successfully execute consumer-facing campaigns
• A positive and enthusiastic attitude, with an excellent work ethic and strong attention to detail
• Exceptional written and oral communications skills, along with engaging presentation skills
• Demonstrated an understanding of analytics for optimizing campaigns
• MS Office Suite required; Experience with Mailchimp, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, Edelweiss, Hootsuite, Canva, and Hootsuite a plus.
