Job Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time exempt Workforce and Student Engagement Navigator to cultivate relationships to create equitable employment opportunities for Clark College students. The Workforce and Student Engagement Navigator will assist students and work in tandem with community and campus partners to engage students in work-based learning such as informational interviews, job shadows, mentoring, class visits, internships and gaining employment.  This position is housed within Student Affairs and reports to the Associate Director of Career Services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Focus 

This position’s focus is to engage in culturally responsive interventions, workshops, and programming to support job attainment; leading with racial equity, to support all students. Meetings and events may be conducted in face-to-face and/or virtual settings.

Plan and build work-based learning opportunities such as informational interviews, job shadows, mentoring, class visits, internships, academic service learning and project-based learning

Assist students to find specific opportunities that align with their goals

Coach students in preparation for internship or job applications; refer them to services for resume critiques, LinkedIn profiles, practice interviews, and job search strategies

Bring these activities to scale by coordinating efforts with the career services team, and Clark and community partners

Utilize student input and feedback for planning and development

Employer Relationships

In a rapidly changing economy, the Workforce and Student Engagement Navigator will work closely with Workforce Southwest Washington (WSW) and employers to establish a beneficial presence for Clark students and graduates within the local workforce.

Develop and implement a plan to engage employers in creating opportunities for Clark students (presentations, meetings, internships)

Coordinate with WSW to develop, enhance, and maintain partnerships with local employers to facilitate internship and career opportunities for Clark College students and alumni

Post, approve and manage employer internship and job announcements

Ensure participating employers engage in culturally responsive and inclusive training programs

Develop and coordinate on-campus and off-campus employer recruiting efforts including job fairs, tabling, information sessions, guest speakers, and other events

Update the Clark co-op/internship training agreement and procedures to ensure a focus on racial equity, relevant and engaging work activities, and exposure to corporate culture and networks

Clark Coordination

The Workforce and Student Engagement Navigator will interact across campus to identify existing business relationships, gaps, and best practices to develop a centralized hub for information, contacts and activities that foster student relationships with employers.

Collaborate with Career Services, community partners, Instruction, Clark Foundation, and Student Affairs to implement Clark’s work-based learning (WBL) program

Work in tandem with Career Advisors and Academic Advisors to implement MyPlan and access employer databases to engage students in career exploration activities such as informational interviews and job shadows

Provide leadership to create a central information hub for student and employer connections

Collaborate to devise and maintain an employer contact management system with faculty, Foundation, ECD, administrators and others

Work with faculty, staff, and their business contacts to ensure development of consistent and equitable experiences for students

Assist with curriculum development to include work-based learning strategies; promote the integration of MyPlan into class assignments

Maintain thorough and current understanding of Clark College programs and degrees, Guided Pathways, Clark student services, labor market trends and community-based career and employment services; inform coworkers of changes, updates and best practices

Serve as a Clark College Advisory Board member for all Professional and Technical Programs

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent education/experience

Five (5) years of work experience, with at least two years of full-time experience in fields such as marketing, fundraising, communications, recruitment, non-profit or job development, or experience in a higher education environment

Knowledge and understanding of both the higher education and workforce systems, current labor market trends, and job search techniques

Must have driver’s license, transportation, and be able to travel outside of the office approximately 20% of the work week, depending on the needs of the department

Commitment to racial equity.  Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds, particularly low-income, first generation college students

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Effective public relations and networking abilities

Strong computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office suite, social networking tools, using technology to facilitate the job search process as well as the ability to quickly learn new data management and software systems as required.

Ability to work during office hours – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. – with occasional morning, evening, and weekend hours

Salary/Benefits: 

Starting Salary: $59,611

Benefits package includes insurance, retirement, annual and sick leave, disability, flexible spending account, and tuition waiver.
