Job Description
Paramount+, a direct-to-consumer digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service from ViacomCBS, combines live sports, breaking news, and a mountain of entertainment. The premium streaming service features an expansive library of original series, hit shows and popular movies across every genre from world-renowned brands and production studios, including BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and the Smithsonian Channel. The service is also the streaming home to unmatched sports programming, including every CBS Sports event, from golf to football to basketball and more, plus exclusive streaming rights for major sports properties, including some of the world’s biggest and most popular soccer leagues. Paramount+ also enables subscribers to stream local CBS stations live across the U.S. in addition to the ability to stream ViacomCBS Streaming’s other live channels: CBSN for 24/7 news, CBS Sports HQ for sports news and analysis, and ET Live for entertainment coverage.
Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced, SEO-savvy writer to cover commerce trends and consumer products and CBS News. The writer should have a strong background crafting articles that are highly engaging, ideally covering products and consumer trends. Experience with consumer tech topics is necessary, and financial services and/or home furnishings a big plus!
This is a full-time staff position, either remote or based in our Burbank office. The right candidate will have editorial experience writing fun but newsy copy for a mass audience, and be comfortable researching and recommending consumer tech products. And as a senior writer, they will help guide our coverage strategy, and may handle some assigning and editing of freelancers.
The position is on a central team that provides editorial and creative services to ViacomCBS Streaming websites, covering entertainment, news and sports, including CBS News, ET online and Paramount+.
We’re looking for writers who can easily speak to a mass audience, who can make everyday things super interesting, who can find the most clickable item to include in any list. Comfort with analytics and SEO are key. Newsroom or daily publication experience is a must, as is an eye for story and a sensitivity to brand voice.
Responsibilities
Write and research product roundups, particularly about tech, personal finance and/or home topics
Meet the high editorial standards set by CBS News and our other partner sites
Build a consistent stream of creative content for our digital platforms
Give fresh, timely ideas and be ready to act on those approved
Contribute to regular brainstorms, with a variety of teams
Contribute strategic insights to grow this new project
Keep up with affiliate deals and optimize links in articles
Optimize and update articles to take advantage of traffic, affiliate and SEO trends
Lead coverage in assigned topic areas — writing, and occasionally assigning other writers
Basic Qualifications
Experience writing with confidence on a mix of these topics: consumer tech, games, personal finance, home tech, security and home furnishings
Rock-solid writing and editing skills (we will want to see examples of work)
Understanding of major social and digital platforms
Experience sourcing photos for site / social / video use
A sense of humor
Team-oriented
An eye for topics that other writers will miss
A dedication to accuracy
Firm grasp of journalistic ethics and impeccable news judgment
Comfort with analytics platforms (Adobe, Chartbeat, etc.)
Experience at a daily publication, using a CMS
Experience writing “best products” lists and other shopping content
Experience working with, and optimizing to, different affiliate revenue sources
Experience optimizing content for SEO
Additional Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of related experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Must successfully pass a background check
