Another Source’s client, Junior Achievement of Washington, is recruiting a Director of Communications to join their team.  One of the great benefits of this position is that it can be located remotely anywhere in the state of Washington and provides great work life balance in that it is a flex schedule, four day (preferably Monday – Thursday) a week job! 

 

OVERVIEW: 

The Director of Communications is a strategic leader who works to further the mission of JAWA through measurable communications, marketing, and outreach programs. Utilizing their extensive working knowledge of communication and marketing strategies and tools, they evaluate and implement strategies to best meet objectives. The Director of Communications carries out this work under tight deadlines, balancing competing demands and prioritizing amidst often shifting priorities. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Director of communications will work closely with the senior leadership team as the communications partner on all strategic initiatives. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • STRATEGIC: Plans, develops, and implements communication tactics to meet the strategic objectives of JAWA. Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across the network’s discreet audiences in collaboration with the JAWA team and constituents 
  • BRAND MANAGEMENTCreation and management of assets such as brand book, logos, photo bank, collateral, language and photography guidelines, etc.  
  • COLLATERAL CREATION: Utilize expertise in print & digital tools and industry knowledge to craft and deliver work products on a timely basis for short and long-term projects. Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, social media posts, press releases and website. 
  • WRITINGWriting for a range of mediums requiring an eagle’s eye for editing, proofreading and producing content, such as articles, blog posts, press releases, presentations and collateral integrating JAWA’s key messages, brand identity and unique voice. 
  • STORYTELLINGResponsible for overseeing storytelling initiatives, which includes supporting staff across the organization in writing for their stakeholder audiences, targeting key messages and creating compelling call-to-actions. 
  • DIGITAL MANAGER: Serves as JAWA’s primary digital content producer, developing and implementing digital content strategies to achieve results in alignment with JAWA’s objectives. Manages the day-to-day activities of all social media channels and website content and updates. Generate online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action.  
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Develop and manage all media contacts, write press releases and pitches etc. 
  • MEASUREMENT: Regularly tracks and reports on analytics to assess and improve JAWA’s effectiveness in reaching communications objectives. Initiates strategic research and uses analysis results to recommend improvements, updates and innovations to communications and marketing plans. Ownership of digital and post-campaign reports, which includes providing analysis and insights. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Junior Achievement of WA is seeking an accomplished Director of Communications who has at least ten years of communications experience, ideally in an “in-house” leadership role within a complex (number and variety of constituents) nonprofit entity, and covering areas such as social media, website content, newsletters, and donor communications. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical. 

Specific requirements include: 

  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives. 
  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies 
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills 
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing key initiatives concurrently 
  • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to manage by influence. 
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels. 
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
