Part-Time Music Therapist

Job Description

We are currently looking for a Music Therapist to join our Creative Arts Therapy team at the Hospital for Sick Children.

The Music Therapist is responsible for planning and implementing a robust music therapy program within a patient and family-centred framework.  This program aims to support the developmental, emotional, and psychosocial needs of patients and their families to improve communication, explore emotions and enhance quality of life.

Here’s What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Conduct music therapy assessments and determine specific treatment goals directed towards the social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs of patients
  • Implement a music therapy plan of care, including documentation, ongoing evaluation and revision of clinical interventions, to best meet the needs of patients and families
  • Work collaboratively with interprofessional healthcare teams
  • Integrate evidence into clinical practice and identify music therapy research opportunities
  • Provide ongoing education and learning opportunities for members of the healthcare team
  • Create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge
  • Provide supervision and education to music therapy students
  • Participate in ongoing continuing professional development
  • Coordinate select hospital-wide music activities and initiatives
  • Act as a liaison with the Communication and Public Affairs team and the Hospital Foundation

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Masters of Music Therapy degree
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience. Pediatric experience is essential, preferably hospital-based
  • Certified Music Therapist (MTA) or equivalency or in the process of obtaining MTA
  • Membership in good standing with the Canadian Association for Music Therapists
  • Registered Psychotherapist (RP) designation an asset, but not required
  • Professional music skills including proficiency on guitar and ability to improvise on primary instrument and voice
  • Ability to provide ethnically and culturally sensitive and inclusive care to a diverse patient population
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively on multiple teams, within an acute care environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Employment Type: Temporary, Part-Time (13-month contract – 0.6 FTE at 22.5 hours per week)
