Full-Time Monarch Recovery Strategy Coordinator

Job Description

Our programs focus on conserving wildlife, restoring habitat and waterways, growing outdoor opportunities, connecting children with nature, and addressing the causes and consequences of climate change. This position will work in close collaboration and will report to the Senior Manager of Climate-Resilient Habitats.  The location of this position is flexible, but Austin, TX is preferred.

As our Monarch Recovery Strategy Coordinator you will assist and support the administration and documentation related to the planning, creation, and implementation of a Federation-wide strategy to ensure that NWF’s campaigns and programs to recover the monarch butterfly and other native pollinators are science-based and effective. This position will require constant and clear communication with the Senior Manager of Climate-Resilient Habitats and with NWF’s internal monarch conservation team, to ensure that the organization’s monarch conservation strategy targets all aspects of our conservation work.

You will work as well to support the growth of the South Central Regional Center Monarch Stewards Certification Program and the What’s Buzzing in Texas? webinar series by helping organize volunteer trainings and quarterly webinars, recruiting participants, and general volunteer coordination including promoting volunteer opportunities, managing the volunteer database, and sharing resources with volunteers on a regular basis.

In this position you will:

  • Together with the Senior Manager and the monarch conservation team, create an Action Plan to advance the Federation’s Monarch Recovery Strategy.
  • Assist the Senior Manager in organizing and producing program-related deliverables for both, the Federation-wide program and the regional urban monarch conservation programs. This will include:
    • Set up effective communication systems within the Federation’s monarch conservation team
    • Maintain qualitative and quantitative metrics to measure the programs reach and impact
    • Provide input and innovation that will ensure continuous success of the programs
    • Ensure program materials (resources, fact sheets, newsletter, blogs, website information) are up to date and accurately reflect the program’s objectives and priorities.
    • Embody and live principles of equity and justice and environmental justice.
    • Assist on research by collecting and organizing monarch and pollinator conservation science-based, peer reviewed resources that will help inform the Federation-wide and regional monarch conservation programs.
    • Assist on the development of science-based publications and reports
    • Organize and continuously update materials shared with the communities and volunteers
    • Write and translate conservation educational materials and other communication documents into Spanish
    • Inform the Senior Manager of Climate-Resilient Habitats of the latest science-based monarch and all pollinator conservation data
  • Plan and schedule internal and external meetings, create agendas, gather information and resources for future meetings, attend meetings and take care of follow-up needs, and take effective, informative notes during internal and external meetings and send timely, meeting reports to the internal team.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • College Degree in Environmental-related topics
  • At least two years of relevant work experience in science-based project coordination and applied science
  • Science-based data collection, including journal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in Spanish (writing and speaking)
  • Strong organizational skills—being well-organized, and being able to support the coordination of the internal team
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Self-motivated, and detailed-oriented
  • Acting and thinking systematically, but at the same time, being flexible enough to adapt strategies to challenging situations
  • People skills to work with all backgrounds
  • Team player and collaborator
  • Strong professional work ethic and values

Nice to have:

If you plan to pursue an advanced degree in the near future (e.g. M.Sc., PhD), this could be a position that will help you to earn experience on documenting your research and analyzing data.

Travel:

There may be travel required when offices reopen—approximately 5-6 times per year.  A driver’s license is required.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary is $50,000 annually.
