We are seeking a Grant Associate to join our growing team – someone who is passionate about supporting charities and non-profits and securing their funding to achieve their goals.

Position Summary

The Grant Associate will play a central role in assisting clients to identify, apply for, report on and comply with grants that align with their mandates. The Grant Associate will be primarily responsible for researching, developing, and submitting proposals to funders that tell each Client’s story and impact in the community. The Associate must quickly understand a client’s program goals and translate these ideas into the written word. They also must have project management experience to smoothly steer a client from the beginning to the end a grant application process. The Grant Associate will be held to a high expectation of excellence in their writing and editing abilities. The Grant Associate will also be central to the organization’s growth and the success of our clients by supporting them in achieving their bold visions for social justice, environmental research and sustainability.

YellowTree works with national, provincial and local environmental organizations, and the Grant Associate will manage the files of these Clients, as well as others.   This position requires an individual with training and experience in environmental studies, sustainability, or climate change. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively and positively when representing the company with clients, partners and funders.

 

List of Main Responsibilities

Research & Planning

  • Research potential grant opportunities and funders and provide strategic input on funding trends and priorities;
  • Track, schedule, and communicate all deadlines and workflows for funder relationship management, grant applications, and reports, including internal deadlines for collection of information from staff departments ensuring on-time submission and a high rate of successful funding requests;
  • Conduct prospect research for funders online and through subscription-based databases;
  • Conduct grant readiness assessments with Clients;
  • Conduct research for client for letters of Intent and grant proposals;
  • Proactively track and manage a portfolio of grant prospects and pipelines.

 

Project Management

  • Meet proposal deadlines by establishing workplans and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal;
  • Create and interpret grant financial documents, including proposal budgets, grant expense reports, and budget and expense report narratives;
  • Develop proposals by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation;
  • Manage and track grant funding calendar with due dates for proposals and follow-up reporting and other deliverables;
  • Work closely with team members on shared relationships and partnerships to set overall strategy and execution.

 

Client Management

  • Create grant proposal budgets for Clients as per funder requirements;
  • Create performance measurement frameworks for Clients to monitor grant progress;
  • Monitor and relay relevant grant deadlines and reporting requirements to Clients;
  • Update/create Clients’ annual grant strategy based on funding priorities;
  • Conduct outreach to funders on behalf of Clients, as required;
  • Contribute to Client partnership development opportunities;
  • Work with Clients to develop and write grant reports;

 

Writing and Editing

  • Be fastidious in your professional writing skills, including editing and proofreading;
  • Articulate complex concepts in a simple, straightforward and concise manner;
  • Prepare and write grants proposals to a wide variety of funders;
  • Edit Clients’ work to ensure alignment with grant;
  • Write compelling Client impact reports; includes both interim and final reports;

 

List of Key Qualifications

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills;
  • Successful, demonstrated project management skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat;
  • Demonstrated ability to work online to accomplish projects;
  • Proven capacity to work independently, exercise good judgment, and meet multiple competing deadlines;
  • Experience researching, writing and submitting successful grant applications;
  • Experience in creating budgets;
  • Experience working in team settings and working collaboratively internally and externally;
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with consistent attention to detail;
  • Masters’ degree in environmental studies
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the non-profit field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience preparing and writing grant applications.
  • Experience in creating performance measurement and/or evaluation frameworks will be considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French/English or other) will be considered an asset.

 

This role is a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension.

 

Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000
