CASUAL YOUTH ENGAGEMENT MENTOR

 

The Purpose

Manchester United Foundation’s Community Engagement Department are committed to providing positive opportunities for the support, growth, and development of our young people across Manchester. Our approach to community support includes the delivery of targeted provisions intent on improving protective factors that help to shield our young people against issues involving youth violence and criminal exploitation.

Through our development programmes we support young people aged 13 – 19 at risk of criminal exploitation and youth violence through mentoring, social education, challenging negative perceptions, providing positive opportunities involving skill development, supporting improved employability and personal development as well as general support and advice.

We are looking for experienced and dedicated youth workers to support the delivery of our targeted programmes.

Monday – Friday – Evening and/or daytime

The Role

  • To support the Community Engagement Coordinator in the delivery of an intervention and development programme designed for young people aged 13 – 19 at risk of youth violence and criminal exploitation.
  • Through building positive relationships with young people, parents and support network provide dedicated group, 1-1 and mentoring support for the programmes participants as allocated by the Community Engagement Coordinator.
  • Attend regular update and steering group meetings with programme staff demonstrating your ability to assess the progress of your work whilst continuously aiming to implement and maintain best practice.
  • To become familiar with and deliver the role in accordance to robust risk assessments and safeguarding procedures already in place.Support the design
  • and delivery of a range of activities including football and  other sports, social education workshops, personal development plans, work experience.
  • Complete all monitoring and evaluation tasks as directed by the Community Engagement Coordinator.
  • Conduct home/doorstep visits and support participants at community football provision.
  • Actively research and source external opportunities for participants.

The Person

  • Ability to demonstrate compassion, empathy, and patience.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and set boundaries.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting young people within in a community setting.
  • Experience working with challenging behaviours and/or vulnerable young people.
  • Experience working with young people in 1-1 and group settings.
  • A minimum level 1 qualification in Youth work practice or equivalent.
  • Basic IT skills including use of word, excel spreadsheet.

Desirable

  • Full UK Driver’s license
  • Football and/or sports coaching qualification.
  • Mentoring qualification and experience.
