Full-Time Youth Support Specialist- Parenting Program Facilitator

Job Description

  1. Job Summary:

Are you passionate about seeing the next generation of parents and their children thriving in our communities? Youth and Family Services is piloting a new program that will provide culturally specific parenting training and support groups for parents age 18-25 and their children ages 0-5 in Ramsey County. This program is intended to enable age-appropriate child development lessons to support parents in fostering kindergarten readiness for their children with a focus on literacy and numeracy.

The Parenting Program Facilitator (YSS) is responsible for performing and maintaining services and programs that satisfy specific identified needs of young adults. The YSS will demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain clear and healthy boundaries with youth while performing all aspects of their designated program. This position is a part time position that will facilitate curricula specific to program deliverables and support the parenting youth with navigating resources as they exit the program.

 

  1. Essential Functions:
    • Creatively recruit and identify 5-10 parenting young adults per cohort that meet the eligibility requirements for the program.
    • Work in collaboration with part-time program facilitator
    • Maintain and track specific data for program and contract deliverables.
    • Provide weekly facilitation of culturally specific curriculum.
    • Establish and maintain working relationships with peers, community and court appointed partners, educators, youth support systems, and resource staff to achieve established program plan goals.
    • Identify, make referrals to, and coordinate necessary and appropriate community resource programs upon cohort completion.
    • Develop and maintain supportive, nurturing, and empowering relationships with youth.
    • May provide work direction to team members, interns and volunteers as needed.
    • Perform administrative duties to support the program as needed.
  1. Relationships:

This position reports to the Youth Support Program Director who reports to the Program Executive.  The incumbent interacts regularly with youth, families, community partners/agencies, educators, volunteers and other YMCA program staff.

  1. Qualifications:

Required

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (such as Human Services, Social Work, Corrections or Youth Development) or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in youth development to preferably include case management, working with diverse, low income and at risk youth or related human service experience.
    • Demonstrated professionalism in the areas of time management, communication, and curriculum facilitation
    • Ability to effectively problem solve utilizing all resources available.
    • Must be able to work in an independent and self-directed manner
    • Experience working with diverse populations
    • Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite (Word and Excel)
    • Ability to transport youth to meetings and activities, if applicable.
    • Ability to pass a drivers road test for YMCA vehicles and trailers.
    • Upon hire, completion of YMCA provided Motor Vehicle and or Department of Transportation Insurance Training.

Preferred

    • Represents the cultural background of the targeted demographic of young people
    • Multilingual
    • Experience facilitating groups and curriculum based programming
    • Working with the parenting population
    • Experience in navigating systems in Minnesota

 

  1. Work Conditions:
    • Ability to perform a variety of physical activities with program participants which may include but are not limited to walking, standing for long periods of time, running, throwing and lifting up to 50lbs.
    • Ability to travel locally to attend meetings.
    • This position should expect to be working in person, in community, in a direct service capacity for at least 80% of their time, with the other 20% being administrative duties and tasks.

This role is starting at $23 an hour.
