Temporary Youth Environmental Awards Outreach Assistant – Posted by Augusta, Maine, United States

Job Summary

The Natural Resources Council of Maine, the state’s leading environmental advocacy organization, is seeking a part-time, temporary assistant to help promote and implement the Brookie Awards for young environmental leaders. This position assists the director of NRCM Rising, which sponsors the Brookie Awards, with several aspects of the program including the application and selection process, scheduling trainings and film shoots with our six winners, recruiting sponsorships, and logistics around the awards ceremony and outdoor retreat.

This is a five-month (Jan 3-June 3, 2022), part-time (10 hours per week) position, mostly working remotely, with a flexible schedule, and very limited travel require. This position is not eligible for benefits. 

NRCM requires full vaccination against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Job applicants advanced in the search process will be requested to show proof that they will have received at least their first injection prior to November 1, 2021. The selected candidate will be expected to be fully vaccinated prior to start. Full vaccination is considered to be two weeks beyond the second Pfizer or Moderna shots or beyond the Johnson & Johnson shot.

Supervisor:    NRCM Rising Director 

Status:            Part-time, Temporary Contract Position (January 3, 2022 – June 3, 2022)

Salary:            $25/hour


Job Responsibilities:

Application Support

  • Maintain records and contact information for applicants and nominators using google forms
  • Conduct personal outreach to nominees to encourage them to complete an application
  • Conduct personal outreach to applicants to solicit missing materials
  • Assist in coordinating application review process including collating and organizing applications, maintaining scoring spreadsheets, coordinating with our team of reviewers, providing materials as needed, scheduling interviews, and serving as a point of contact for reviewers and semi-finalists


Sponsorship Liaison

  • Conduct outreach to potential awards ceremony sponsors and execute follow-up as needed
  • Collaborate with other team members on sponsorship recruitment strategies
  • For secured sponsorships, collect logo and other necessary information and add to website, programs, and social media as promised in the schedule of sponsor benefits
  • Act as point of contact for awards ceremony sponsors


Awards Ceremony Support

  • Assist with logistics of planning an awards event
  • Assist with drafting, formatting, and executing ticket sales promotional emails
  • Assist with awards ceremony promotion via digital, social media, email marketing and print media.
  • Monitor ticket sales and event registration, keep NRCM staff apprised of progress or issues.
  • Coordinate travel and accommodations for our six award winners


Programming for Award Recipients

  • Assist in scheduling professional development trainings with award winners and our contractor
  • Assist in scheduling film shoots with our six award winners and our videographer
  • Work with our nature-based retreat company on scheduling, itinerary, and logistics.
  • Serve as point person for all questions from our winners and vendors.
  • Coordinate travel and accommodations for our six award winners.

Physical Requirements of the Job

The job requires working at a computer station for substantial lengths of time; performing office duties such as phoning, filing, and copying, and the ability to lift objects up to 10 pounds. Our office is located in Augusta near the State House.
