Exciting opportunity to be a part of a dynamic community organization committed to improving the lives of those we serve. New Hope Midcoast is a domestic violence resource center that offers support to people affected by domestic abuse, dating violence, and stalking, regardless of gender, age, ability or other identities. We serve Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox, and Waldo counties in Maine. We also provide educational resources to assist our communities in creating a safer, more inclusive future.

 

About the Position

We currently have an opening for a Youth Educator. The Youth Educator is responsible for implementing New Hope Midcoast’s youth-focused violence prevention program in Knox and Waldo counties. This position is tasked with delivering content and age-specific presentations to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, youth, and school staff primarily in a school setting. In addition, the Youth Educator is responsible for providing direct advocacy support services via helpline, and occasionally in-person, for people who have been affected by dating  violence or domestic abuse.

  • You are passionate about engaging with youth, and do so in a way that demonstrates you believe they are resilient, capable, and can make decisions for their own lives.
  • You are comfortable supporting people as they navigate difficult conversations and topics.
  • You are a confident, skilled and engaging presenter, able to explain complex content in an accessible way to small or large audiences

 

Qualifications

  • Relevant knowledge, experience and skills or equivalent bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with youth individually and in group settings
  • Practiced presentation and training facilitation skills
  • Ability to operate within, and maintain relationships with, local schools and community organizations
  • Excellent listening, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work with limited supervision
  • Ability to research, develop and work collaboratively to develop youth-focused programming for grades K-12
  • Understand and be committed to issues of diversity and intersectional feminism
  • Comfortable with technology, including: Apple, Google suite, Zoom, various social media platforms
  • Possession of a valid and active Maine driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and adequate insurance, or access to reliable and consistent transportation

 

Additional Job Information

  • Full-time (40 hr) position located in Rockland, ME, with travel required throughout our catchment area and the option for working remotely with flexible hours, based on need.
  • Significant driving required, based mainly through Knox & Waldo counties (business related mileage is reimbursable)
  • Rotate as the staff back up for a 7-day period, 4-5 times a year
  • Starting at $19/hour, salary will be commensurate with experience.
