Full-Time VP, Data Governance Manager (Req#2102)

Job Description

This position supports the Data Governance program within the Enterprise Risk Management Division and reports to the SVP Model and Financial Risk Director. The Data Governance Manager is responsible for leading and implementing data governance initiatives to ensure effective management of data assets. This role is crucial in maintaining data quality, privacy, security, and compliance within the bank. The Data Governance Manager collaborates with various stakeholders to establish data governance policies, standards, and processes, providing guidance to ensure adherence to these guidelines. They oversee data governance frameworks, facilitate data-related decision-making, and drive continuous improvement in data management practices.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement data governance strategies, policies, and procedures tailored to the needs of a midsize bank by collaborating with stakeholders to establish data governance frameworks, standards, and guidelines that align with industry best practices. Define and enforce data governance roles, responsibilities, and ownership across different business units and departments
  • Develop and maintain data governance processes and workflows, including data quality, data classification, data retention, and data access controls.
  • Help establish data quality metrics, monitor data quality issues, and implement corrective actions to improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Monitor and report on data governance metrics, performance indicators, and compliance status to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to resolve data-related issues, implement data governance initiatives, and make data-informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to implement data governance tools and technologies that meet the bank’s requirements and support data management processes.
  • Drive data governance awareness and training programs within the bank to promote a data-driven culture and enhance data literacy across departments.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory changes related to data governance in the banking sector, and provide recommendations accordingly.

PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION MAKING:

The Data Governance Manager plays a pivotal role in making critical decisions that impact data governance and management within the bank. This position requires a high level of problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex data-related issues to develop effective solutions. The Data Governance manager will need to work both independently and in collaborative environments. The Data Governance Manager will work closely with senior management and collaborate with various stakeholders to establish data governance frameworks and standards, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and bank’s overall objectives. The decisions made by the Data Governance Manager directly impact the implementation of data governance initiatives and drive a data driven culture within the organization.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in data governance, data management, or related roles within the banking industry.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, industry standards, and best practices applicable to midsize banks.
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations and compliance requirements specific to the banking sector (e.g., GLBA, Basel III).
  • Proficiency in data management tools and data quality tools commonly used in the banking industry.
  • Excellent understanding of data lifecycle, data architecture, and data integration concepts relevant to a midsize bank.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data-related issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the bank.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and drive change management initiatives within a midsize bank setting.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills.
