Full-Time Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor – Vocational Services

Job Description

EAC Network is seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Vocational Services Program located in Hempstead, NY. The Position is Monday-Friday 9:00AM-5:00PM and has excellent benefits medical/dental/401K and very generous Paid Time Off plan (PTO).

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is responsible for providing counseling, vocational assistance, and employment services to clients referred at drug/alcohol treatment programs in Nassau County with the outcome of economic self-sufficiency as the objective of the counseling process.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Perform client intake to obtain information to initiate the counseling process.
  2. Provide on-going individual and group counseling to develop vocational and educational plans based on education, employment background, expressed interest and career exploration activities.
  3. Conduct follow-up counseling sessions to review progress towards established goals.
  4. Administer, score and interpret aptitude, interest and work sample tests when appropriate.
  5. Function as agency liaison with vocational agencies such as ACCESS/VR, DOL and One-Stop Employment Centers.
  6. Maintain individual client case folders.
  7. Consult with family, school and community agencies regarding client’s progress.
  8. Utilize the educational training, skills, and experience obtained from advanced degree to provide appropriate professional services, techniques, and strategies for clients.
  9. Explore and develop employment opportunities and community resources for referral purposes.
  10. Prepare required forms and keep statistics on client contacts, referrals, job activities, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  1. Must be a Qualified Health Professional with a Masters Degree in a related field (Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, LSW, LMHC, LPC), and be in good standing with the appropriate licensing or certifying authority required.
  2. Minimum of two years of career counseling experience with individuals with a history of alcohol/substance abuse problems required.
  3. Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
  4. Must have access to a car and possess a valid New York State Driver’s License.

This position may require the incumbent to provide acceptable proof of COVID-19 vaccination or undergo weekly PCR Testing.
