Full-Time Vice President of Human Resources

SUMMARY

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President of Human Resources (VPHR) is responsible for shaping the HR vision and providing leadership in developing and executing Human Resources (HR) strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization. This position provides leadership in developing specific strategies for the development, delivery, and alignment of people initiatives to support achievement of near and long term organizational goals. The VPHR leads the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies, policies, practices and procedures in areas of change management, compensation and benefits, compliance, diversity, employee relations, engagement, retention, employment law, leadership development, organizational effectiveness, professional development, talent management, training and development, workers compensation and workforce planning.

The ideal candidate has expertise and is deeply passionate about improving our program outcomes by enhancing the employee experience through various HR strategies. They should have excellent communication skills, business acumen, data analytics, superior consultative skills and experience with HR program implementation, along with the ability to collaborate with a wide variety of employees, teams and external stakeholders as needed. Ability to cross cultural boundaries to build and maintain strong working relationships for organizational success. This position works with minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and interactive skills and nurtures and exemplifies a culture of inclusion, operational excellence, integrity, compassion, teamwork, and a desire to achieve the company mission and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and directs all aspects of human resources policies, practices, procedures, programs, objectives, and initiatives while providing advice and support to ensure fair and consistent administration throughout the organization
  • Drive the HR strategic planning process by involving key stakeholders, leveraging internal and external data sources, as well as ensuring alignment to the company’s business strategy
  • Advises executive level business leaders on both strategic and tactical plans, providing support, coaching, mentorship, feedback and development to help to support their business goals
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization in order to be an effective listener and problem solver, providing creative and innovative solutions to the business on complex problems
  • Identifies and acts on key metrics for decision-making, and develops methods and procedures for compiling and analyzing data for reports and special projects
  • Acts as the voice to facilitate improvements to HR policies, practices and procedures utilizing continuous improvement practices
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the Human Resources team
  • Manages the budget and other financial measures of the Human Resources department
  • Works collaboratively with the CIS Board of Directors, external agencies, and serves on assigned committees
  • Exceptional partner to executive leadership team, leadership team and employees
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, requirements and best practices
  • Complies with legal and governmental reporting regulations and requirements and participates in audits
  • Effectively manages appropriate internal and external communications
  • Keep abreast of industry knowledge and trends by participating in conferences and educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations
  • Responsible for the sourcing, recruitment, interview, selection, hiring and onboarding processes
  • Manages the total compensation strategy, focusing on attracting, developing, retaining and motivating employees, while maintaining competitiveness in the market
  • Manages the administration of payroll and employee benefits programs (health, life, disability, 403(b), FMLA, etc.), with the support of brokers and vendors as applicable
  • Designs, integrates and implements human resource software systems for better efficiency
  • Partners and supports on additional programs such as risk management, workers compensation, safety, etc.
  • Some local travel may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Business or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Professional accreditation in Human Resources (SPHR/PHR/SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP)
  • Ten (10) plus years of professional experience within multiple HR functional areas
  • Five (5) plus years of experience in a leadership role responsible for leading a broad range of HR functions
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic HR initiatives
  • Demonstrated HR generalist experience
  • Experience in various HRIS products; proficient in Paylocity HRIS, preferred
  • Experience building an HR strategy, establishing short- and long-term goals, and prioritizing initiatives that lead to measurable results
  • Solid knowledge of HR best practices and trends and understanding of HR challenges and opportunities
  • Experience developing and facilitating trainings and events for multiple audiences
  • Experience managing projects across multiple different departments and stakeholders.
  • Adept at conflict resolution with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively
  • Experience coaching, mentoring and developing others
  • Ability to perform in both a strategic and tactical manner

SKILLS REQUIREMENT

  • Comfort and experience collaborating and coaching at all levels of an organization, including coaching and advising executive leaders
  • Strong problem-solving skill with the ability to work through tough issues quickly and effectively and maintain positive employee relations.
  • Must be extremely organized, self-motivated, ability to work on multiple priorities both independently and with a team
  • Excellent verbal written, interpersonal communication skills
  • Must possess outstanding technical and analytical skills with a strong business operational focus
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; judgment, trust, integrity, sensitivity, diplomacy
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, advanced knowledge of Excel and experience with Google Suite, Zoom and other virtual meeting platforms
  • A strong self-starter, pragmatic, enthusiastic toward development and creation of new initiatives and able to drive organizational change and build consensus
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times when dealing with HIPPA, compensation and other HR and personnel matters
  • An excellent communicator, able to listen for understanding and speak with confidence, diplomacy, and tact
  • Culturally competent and experienced working with diverse populations and perspectives

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, feel and keyboard; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, or bend. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position is located within the Charlotte Mecklenburg area. Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality are required. Regular and satisfactory performance including meeting all process deadlines and stated deliverables is required.
