We are looking for a talented Technical Project Leader – Fuel Cell Powertrain to join our team specializing in Electrified Power Business Segment in West Sacramento, CA.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
• This dual product/project focused, developing leadership position leads the overall technical coordination of complex product development activities and is accountable for the project management of technical risk and quality of the product up to and including early production. This position integrates the requirements of the many interdisciplinary and cross functional stakeholders of product development, often involving difficult decisions that impact cost and delivery without sacrifice to the quality expectations of the value package profile.
• Obtains input and negotiates with program leadership, customers, customer teams, product engineers or technology teams to deliver robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.
Other important stakeholders of this role include preferred partner suppliers, manufacturing, purchasing, technical leadership and marketing teams.
• Makes decisions in the areas of design and project risk trade-offs that impact program cost or delivery without sacrifice of quality expectations.
• Main focus will include working in business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI) or Current Product Support (CPS) and using tools such as Product Development Six Sigma (PDSS), iDFMEA, Voice of the Customer and Voice of Other Stakeholders (VOC/VOX), Integrity, MS Office Suite, New Unique and Difficult (NUD) and project risk 9-box and Value Package Introduction – Project Portfolio Management (VPI-PPM), all required to support high quality decision making.
• Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.
• Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.
Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.
• Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).
• Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
University, or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience
Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering role (7 plus years) on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.

Leads the overall technical coordination for the integration of a fuel cell powertrain into certain bus & truck applications
• Accountable for the project management (scope, schedule, tasks, resources incl. budget) and delivery of the powertrain including, among others, planning, budgeting/forecasts, grant milestones, timeline tracking, risk management, continuous improvement, product maturity, grant reports, etc.
• Develops and manages overall plan for vehicle integration and demonstration including design, prototyping, manufacturing, commissioning, DVP&R and delivery
• Works with internal and external suppliers to ensure components are delivered on time and to desired performance/quality metrics
• Develops and manages requirements of the many interdisciplinary and cross functional stakeholders of product development (mechanical integration, electrical integration, controls, systems, thermal etc.) to ensure that the team delivers
• Conducts design reviews at appropriate milestones with the engineering and program leadership team
• Strong engineering background & technical prowess: Critically assesses internal designs relating to program and has design approval authority
Responsible for systems engineering for in scope fuel cell powertrain programs : systems architecture development, systems requirements generation/maintenance/tracking, thermal systems development/analysis/roadmapping, vehicle verification & validation
• People management: Managing/mentoring/coaching/building success in 2-3 direct reports focused on one platform of fuel cell powertrain programs
• Leads through influence – position will draw engineering resources from the engineering organization. TPL will need to be comfortable with working in a cross-functional, matrixed organization
• Primary advocate & voice for programs in his/her platform. Negotiates budget/resource requirements based on timelines/scope/complexity to achieve success

Supports business development and customer discussions as necessary
• Communicates with fuel cell and electrified power program leadership team frequently on status of project and key milestones
• Works well in a fast paced, agile environment with tight deadlines
• Comfortable with shifting priorities

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
