Purpose and Background
Are you passionate about tackling deforestation? Would you like to be at the heart of driving action through environmental disclosure?
As our new ‘Technical Manager, Forests’ you will have the technical expertise to support the continuous improvement and maintenance of the CDP Forests questionnaire content and scoring methodology, and to support their delivery into CDP’s disclosure system.
This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in the field of corporate environmental reporting and with experience in forests-related issues. This position requires a technical/scientific background with a focus on commodity-driven deforestation and forests commodity supply chains.

About the Questionnaire & Guidance Team
The Questionnaire & Guidance team is responsible for developing and delivering CDP’s corporate questionnaires and reporting guidance materials, so that CDP is able to collect high quality, relevant data that drives change throughout the global economy. This team is part of the Environmental Impact Department, responsible for evolving CDP’s thought leadership and disclosure framework.
Key responsibilities include to:
- Maintain the quality of the content of CDP Forests questionnaire
- content and guidance materials, in terms of substance and presentation,
- to enable the disclosure of information that drives CDP’s thematic and
- stakeholder strategies
- Ensure that the questions and guidance are delivered into the
- annual disclosure cycle efficiently and accurately, including the
- oversight of junior team members
- Respond to internal technical queries on the forests
- questionnaire content and guidance, and deliver training webinars
- related to the questionnaires and guidance materials
- Contribute to projects related to the development of other CDP
- outputs (e.g. funded projects, publications, and engagement events),
- build and maintain external relationships (e.g. with advisory panels,
- reporting standards etc), and represent CDP externally as a subject
- matter expert as required.
The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time and you may be re-quired to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs.
Required skills and experience
- At least three years of experience (academic and/or professional) in a forests-related role.
- Familiarity with frameworks, standards and initiatives in the
- forests’ arena (e.g. Accountability Framework initiative, Tropical
- Forest Alliance, RSPO and RTRS).
- A relevant academic qualification (postgraduate level preferable), ideally in environmental science or management, and preferably specialising in forests and relating to sustainable business systems.
- At least three years of demonstrable experience managing operational processes or pro-jects.
- A demonstrable understanding of corporate value chains linked to commodity-driven deforestation.
- Experience managing a small team, and a confident and collaborative working style.
- Previous experience of researching and producing written outputs for a business audience.
- A high level of self-motivation and drive, a diligent and collaborative working style and attention to detail
- Strong qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Desired skills and experience
- Experience of projects relating to commodity-driven deforestation especially cattle and soy in Latin America; forest restoration; land management responses to climate mitigation; Nature-based solutions; and/or other topics related to corporate sustainability drivers.
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Experience working with IT processes and/or online content systems.
- Familiarity with CDP’s forests program
- Working knowledge of Portuguese, Spanish, Mandarin and/or Indonesian
Role details
This is a full-time, permanent role working for one of the most successful and fastest-growing initiatives driving action on sustainability. Based at CDP’s London office, the role offers flexible and remote working options. It will start ideally as soon as possible and report to the Senior Manager, Questionnaire & Guidance. There is a 6-month probationary period.
Salary and benefits: £37,700 – £44,500 per annum, 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, generous non-contributory pension provision, employee assistance programme, life assurance, training and development, flexible working opportunities as well as hybrid working and other benefits.
