Primary Purpose:
Plans additions and modifications to company gas and electric facilities focusing almost exclusively on moderate to high complexity customer and municipality projects up to $2 million or more in gross capital spend up to the stage they are ready for construction. Prepares construction orders based on safe, reliable, and cost-effective designs that conform to company policies, standards, safety orders, and governmental regulations.

May alternatively receive initial inquiries and initiating documents from large developers, municipalities and other key distribution services customers; assess project scope and requirements for highly complex projects; work with the customer to gather necessary documents required to set the Applicant Final Submittal date (AFS); and hand-off the ready to project for work through close-out by a project management planner or manager.

Concurrently works 20 or more active projects and with as many different project managers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently prepares or manages the preparation of all documents required to complete the planning (pre-construction) deliverables of a given project in compliance with company policies, including business accounting controls, and governmental rules and regulations. Works with the project manager assigned to a given project to gather the additional information required from customer representatives, government agencies, and other utilities in planning and coordinating additions and modifications to gas and electric facilities. Meets with customer as required. Analyzes customer service load data and meter locations. Performs engineering calculations and negotiates design details in conformance with company standards and government regulations. Conducts field investigations, analyzes the feasibility of additions and modifications to gas and electric facilities.
  • Develops strategies to address business needs/problems and meet customer distribution energy systems and services construction requirements. Serves as a consultant regarding complex issues, applying and communicating specialized knowledge of tariffs, business procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to design, planning and project management staff to improve overall organizational capability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree/ 4 years formal, post-secondary education or equivalent required.
  • 2 years – experience in a role with comparable responsibilities, activities and tasks/duties requiring substantially the same levels of functional knowledge or skills to perform.
  • Requires a valid State of California Driver License, required to operate company or personal vehicles to attend business meetings, field investigations or support C&O Centers with storm restoration related activities.
  • Work assignments will be at Century Park (San Diego). Candidate must be able and willing to work at SDG&E work location including C&O Districts within the SDG&E service territory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree and study in an area related to the work as a planner/project manager.
  • Project or construction management certification or equivalent, preferred.

Work Schedule
HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 2-3 days per week.
