JOB FAMILY DESCRIPTION
Responsible for deploying the release of new technologies as well as the design, installation, configuration, maintenance and system integration testing performance of PC/server operating systems, related utilities and hardware.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES –
* Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements
* Log into servers, parse through log files, look for high memory and CPU utilization, look for file versions and modified dates, compare configuration files to known good installs. Recommend a fix based on issues found, which is discussed with application development team. If the fix involves a configuration change or file replace, we may be asked to open and implement an emergency change under the guidance of the developer
* Investigate and resolve application functionality related issues and provide first level support and troubleshooting
* Check web servers for stability, check log files for errors or patterns, restart services or servers as appropriate. Example: CCN web servers heavy with connections, will work with NOC to have removed from server pool, wait for connections to drain, restart the service or server as appropriate, have NOC add server back into pool
* Monitors the applications, systems and hardware in the processing environment for abnormal processing conditions
* Using Spectrum, Reveille, and Wiley to view server metrics and alarms
* Troubleshoots server, software and hardware issues
* UNIX boxes- use the Top or Topas commands to view memory and processor utilization and to check Java heap. Check mount point connectivity and free space
* Works closely with developers to ensure technical compatibility and user satisfaction (this is a goal as we redevelop/reorg the team)
* Participates in project meetings with other technical staff, business owners and subject matter experts
* Provide minor programming for some in-house IT projects. MEESP written in C#.net with some Java
* Proven ability to be flexible and work hard, both independently and in a team environment, in a high pressure on-call environment with changing priorities
* Performs other related duties as assigned

EDUCATIONAL GUIDELINES
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Knowledge of BKFS’ business environment and the application development environment
* Strong knowledge of multiple operating systems (Windows, UNIX, LINUX) and related utilities and hardware
* Good background in SQL database scripting
* Basic knowledge of network and computing devices, systems development, and information systems architecture
* Basic knowledge and skill in SMTP, DNS, Active Directory, FTP, Telnet, TraceRT, Chown, Chmod, SQL, and scripting
* Some experience working with development technologies such as C# .Net, SQL Server, TFS, Visual Studio, JavaScript
* Excellent analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills
* Ability to develop partnership-oriented relationships with business executives and functional leaders, especially as it relates to operations and technology
* Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment with focus on timeliness, documentation, and communications with peers and business users alike
* Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels within BKFS or outside the organization (executives, regulators, clients, etc.)
* Results oriented, business focused, and successful at interfacing across multiple organizational units

Systems Administrator II
Intermediate professional role requiring moderate skills with high level of proficiency. Solves problems that require analysis and research. Works on small to large, complex projects that require increased skill in multiple technical environments. Extensive knowledge of multiple operating systems and related utilities and hardware. Works on one or more projects as a team member or occasionally as a project lead. May coach more junior technical staff. Works under general supervision with latitude for independent judgment. May consult with senior peers on certain projects. Typically requires four (4) or more years of demonstrated experience.
