Internship Summer Development/Communications Intern & Grant Writing Intern

Job Description

Interested in contributing to a great cause? Do you have a passion for fundraising and research? 

The Development/Communications Intern & Grant Writing Intern will be a key part of Arts Ignite’s efforts to build support through grant and donor cultivation. They will work with the Development and Communications team and play an active role in identifying grants, researching funding opportunities, and executing communications initiatives. With an expected contribution of approximately 5-10 hours per week, each internship can be flexible to allow for the growth and experience to align with the intern’s desired goals.  College credit and stipend available.


Since its founding in 2006 as Artists Striving to End Poverty, Arts Ignite has been cultivating creative capacity, community, and courage in young people through arts education programs that teach them to think like artists and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives.   

Through workshops, residencies, and community events, Arts Ignite’s programs lead communities of young people through arts-rich learning and experiences in varied genres like theater, dance, painting, improvisation, songwriting, videography, and photography that teach them to think like artists and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Communications & Development Intern:

This position reports to the Director of Development and Communications

  • Researching successful fundraising campaigns
  • Participate in copywriting for outward facing materials
  • Participate in graphic design of Communication materials 
  • Organizing and presenting research to the team
  • Identifying appropriate funding opportunities  
  • Attending relevant team & staff meetings
  • Inputting data into Salesforce 
  • Participate in ongoing cultivation activities and events


Grant Writing Intern

This position reports to the Director of Finance & Operations

Responsibilities include: 

  • Researching successful fundraising campaigns
  • Organizing and presenting research to the team
  • Researching appropriate funding and grant opportunities utilizing grant strategy
  • Entering all relevant donor/prospect details into Salesforce; update Master Grant Calendar
  • Drafting grant proposals and applications
  • Attending relevant Development meetings

The ideal candidate has:

  • Interest in nonprofit work, community building, and fundraising.
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, but willing to speak up and share ideas and expertise in meetings
  • Experience with Google Suite
  • Experience working with SalesForce is a plus



We are committed to the health of our employees, and are working remotely until it is deemed safe to return to a busy office environment in midtown Manhattan. Arts Ignite provides support for remote working situations as needed. If interested in in-person experiences, all interns must be fully-vaccinated and submit regular negative PCR tests prior to visiting the office.
