Pay: 50-52k DOE

Our camps bring together the fun of summer camp with the excitement of science and exploration. Pacific Science Center is looking for flexible and positive team players who are passionate about igniting curiosity fueling a passion for discovery in others!

We are currently seeking a Manager for a full-time, temporary (ending approx. 9/2021) non-benefited opportunity with our dynamic Camps team. 
The Camps for Curious Minds Manager leads implementation of the goals and strategies for our summer camp programs. This dynamic role ensures that our programs are efficiently organized and demonstrate best practices for informal learning, scientific exploration, and safety. This role works directly with the Director of Informal Education and Engagement and oversees the entire camps operation. There are over 65 camp themes (both virtual and in-person) and 80 summer staff that are overseen by this role. The Camps for Curious Minds Manager is an enthusiastic and organized problem-solver who is dedicated to safety and success of the program!

Position Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of

  • Best practices related to informal education, summer camp, and/or out-of-school time programs
  • Large metro area out-of-school time programming trends
  • Personnel management and staff coaching best practices

Skills

  • Supervise and support staff and volunteers, responding appropriately to the varying professional needs of individual staff
  • Work effectively and respectfully with people from different cultural backgrounds
  • Flexibility and the ability to remain calm and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Situational awareness and creative problem solving
  • Multitask and prioritize with sound judgment, including ability to organize around multiple projects.
  • Partnership cultivation and maintenance
  • Writing and tracking department level budgets
  • Contract administration and budget tracking and reporting

 

Ability to

  • Ensure campers of all ages and from diverse backgrounds are welcomed and served in a manner that makes their experience positive, memorable and consistent with Pacific Science Center’s mission, vision, and values
  • Take initiative and act independently, as well as with a team
  • Quickly learn and apply new content, policies and procedures

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in STEM, education, or informal education field
  • 2+ years’ supervisory experience of large numbers of staff
  • Experience developing and managing contracts and budgets
  • Valid driver’s license or willingness to obtain one and good driving record including no moving violations in the past three years
  • First Aid/AED/ CPR certified or willingness to obtain
  • Work flexible shifts including evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to get a COVID-19 vaccination when appropriate tier is called and the vaccine is available

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Days and hours of work are largely Monday through Friday but some evening or weekend hours may be required. Work hours frequently exceed 40 hours/week during peak camp season.
  • Off-season work can be done remotely, but must be flexible and able to come (safely) onsite when necessary. Onsite work required during camp season (June-September)
  • This position requires some local travel and ability to drive a 15 passenger van.
