The Systems Engineer will be co-located with Edwards engineering team located in Bradenton, Florida. One of the 5 Business Units, we are part of the Commercial Fire Detection and Alarm segment. The primary responsibility of the Staff Systems Engineer is to be the overall technical lead for New Product Development projects in the fire system and digital product lines within the FSP Commercial Fire business. The Staff Systems Engineer will work with a team of multidisciplinary product development engineers and be responsible for overall product definition, architecture development and system integration activities, including integration of hardware, firmware and software components. In early phases of new projects, they will work with Product Management to accurately scope initial design concepts with appropriate multi-functional team members. They will be responsible for coordinating technical program execution to ensure various aspects of the design are properly implemented for successful product launch.

The “system” is all the parts involved in a fire detection / suppression installation. This would include fire panels, detctors, notificition devices, network communication ( both internal fire network and external public network ), configuration, monitoring, diagnostics as well as all digital remote connectivity to and from this installation.

Key Responsibilities
Work with the various business units within Carrier Fire & Security Products (e.g. Edwards, Autronica, GST & EMS Wireless ) to identify areas of commonality within their product lines that could be standardized into a platform usable by all.
Analyze and help select the best possible solutions (scalable – modular) using knowledge of a wide range of available technologies to help optimize and develop technology platforms that can be used in various business units’ products to speed development efficiency and time to market.
Analyze the Customer Journey of our products ( i.e. – Design & Quote, Program & Configure, Install, Operate ) and identify areas and technology solutions that could be brought into the digital space and standardized across business units.
Provide Systems Engineering leadership and support including requirements analysis and management
Support the development of System Requirements Documents ( SRD ), Subsystem Requirements Documents ( SSRD ).
Develop required design documentation including requirements, functional block diagrams, and DFMEAs.
Lead integration of subsystems to meet product design requirements including developing system integration plans and leading system integration teams.
Ensure designs meet product requirements (functional, cost, quality, safety and reliability)
Coordinate with platform management, product management, program management and engineering teams to deliver new product on schedule and budget.
Work with project management office to prepare and present deliverables for tollgate reviews.
Provide clear communications to technical team members and leaders as well as to leaders and managers with less technical background.
Lead and assist with Technical Reviews
Qualifications:
15+ years experience in product development engineering including leadership in executing program plans.
5+ years of industry knowledge of the life safety/ fire industry.
Experience in modular and platform design approaches.
Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills and ability to work across organizational functions.
Strong global facilitation, team building, collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to prepare and deliver key program metrics and internal/external presentations
Proficiency in MS Office including Word, and Excel
Linux, C, C++, XML, gSOAP, HTML, Cyber Security concepts experience.
Regulatory familiarity ( UL 864, ULC 527, EN54 ) a plus.
Typical Educational Requirements:
BA/BS degree in electrical/computer science engineering w/15+ years experience
