Senior Web Developer
Job Summary :
Independently perform complex applications/web development for projects of large to very large size and complexity; typically work as part of a team to implement business solutions. Responsible for all aspects of application development cycle. Code advanced and complex software solutions.
Position Description :
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing Services in the Office of Marketing & Strategy, the Senior Web Developer is responsible for setting the technical direction of the Division of Continuing Education’s (DCE) website. The Developer collaborates with the digital marketing team to develop best practices to website analytics, tracking, and tagging for marketing campaigns and business intelligence/data gathering.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate fully in software development life cycle with a focus on front-end design and development in WordPress
  • Act as a technical lead and train on the coding and development of websites in WordPress; sets and manages deadlines for technical projects, alongside the content team
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for internal and external constituents and vendors, providing expertise related to Student Information System (SIS) data imports, non-credit program registration systems, and troubleshooting issues with web-hosting vendor, troubleshooting DNS issues with Administrative IT or the webhost
  • Identify opportunities to improve and simplify applications portfolio and implement related enhancements
  • Contribute to creation and maturing of software development best practices and new technologies
  • Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as a technical liaison to internal and external clients and to mentor junior staff
  • Stay up-to-date on current best practices regarding website features and functionality

*Basic Qualifications :
  • Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills :
  • BA/BS in computer science, engineering, or related technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years of IT experience with 5+ years in applications development
  • Expert experience in WordPress
  • Experience in Pantheon, Algolia, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Docker
  • Experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and W3C, Frameworks
  • Experience in web accessibility compliance

This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. DCE is currently trialing hybrid workplace models with a minimum of 2 days per week on campus, and will actively support some remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business: CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT) where business and team needs allow. DCE may adjust these as necessary or appropriate. Furthermore, individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process.
