Full-Time Sr. Program Manager

Job Description

The Family Economic Mobility team at Share Our Strength is leading the charge to address the root causes of poverty and food insecurity to support the long-term security of children and their families. We are focusing our initiative on single mothers, the most food and financially insecure parents, and seeking to surround them with the community-based and policy support necessary to achieve economic mobility for their families. We envision millions of single mothers in the U.S. moving from financial instability to security, thereby ensuring food security for their children into adulthood. Because strong, stable, and secure mothers help nurture and support strong, stable, and secure kids.

 

The Family Economic Mobility team works collaboratively across the organization to design creative initiatives and programs to address the root causes of intergenerational cycles of poverty as well as the structural inequities that create, sustain, and perpetuate food insecurity. Within this exciting and incredibly impactful new initiative, the Senior Program Manager will join the team to: manage a portfolio of major programs and projects; manage national partner and stakeholder convenings; and collaborate with Share Our Strength’s policy, research, government affairs, communications, and other teams to advance family economic mobility for single mothers.

This position can be based in Washington, DC or be fully remote for the right candidate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Program Portfolio Management to Advance Family Economic Mobility

Share Our Strength works with state, local and community-based implementation partners and provides grants to those partners to implement innovative solutions that help single mothers move from economic insecurity to economic mobility. The senior program manager will manage a portfolio programs, including to:

  • Develop and lead relationships with implementation partners.
  • Work with implementation partners to develop scopes of work, project plans, and grant arrangements that align with the Family Economic Mobility vision and strategy.
  • Work with internal partners to execute contracts and ensure timely distribution of funds; plus, fiscally manage the contracts, tracking budget expenditures associated with program delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal and other experts to evaluate performance, progress and impact within the program portfolio; help partners assess their needs, barriers, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal experts to communicate narratives and stories about how the programs are advancing Family Economic Mobility goals and the overall mission.
  • In consultation with the Managing Director, enable key insights learned from program implementation to inform strategic discussions, best practices and continuous improvement.
  1. National Partner and Stakeholder Engagement to Advance Family Economic Mobility

Share Our Strength maintains partnerships with national organizations and serves as a national convener of emergent conversations about family economic mobility. The senior program manager will manage the Family Economic Mobility convening function, including to:

  • In consultation with the Managing Director, design, plan, and manage the implementation of convenings that bring together national experts and partners for learning
  • In consultation with the Managing Director, manage the convening of “Kitchen Cabinet” advisors who meet several times per year to advise on strategy and solutions.
  1. Policy and Advocacy to Advance Family Economic Mobility

Share Our Strength excels in policy and advocacy thanks to deep expertise and capability embedded across the organization. The senior program manager lead collaborations between the Family Economic Mobility team and Share Our Strength’s Policy, Center for Best Practices, and Government Affairs teams, including to:

  • Bring strong knowledge of systems change and government economic security programs, (e.g., guaranteed basic income, child tax credit, baby bonds and others) to support policy/advocacy planning around lifting single mothers out of poverty.
  • Collaborate with and substantively support the Share Our Strength Center for Best Practices and Government Affairs departments in implementing a policy/advocacy agenda centering Family Economic Mobility.

CONTACTS

Has regular interaction with the Family Economic Mobility team, Center for Best Practices team, Government Affairs team, and Communications team. The position will oversee relationships with key partners at the national, state, and local levels.

SUPERVISION

This position reports to the Managing Director of Family Economic Mobility and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal (home) office work environment with less than 20% travel. No heavy lifting required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; or, equivalent professional and work experience.

Experience

  • 8-10 years of program and project management work experience in fields related to addressing poverty and economic insecurity, such as asset building, health, and food security.
  • Experience managing contracts and budgets to achieve desired results.
  • Experience designing, planning, and executing convenings of varying sizes and complexity.
  • Experience cultivating and maintaining productive relationships with program partners.

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of poverty and the barriers people face to realizing financial security.
  • Strong knowledge of government economic security programs such as guaranteed basic income, child tax credit, baby bonds.
  • Strong knowledge of project management phases, processes, and tools.

Skills, Abilities and Attributes

  • Passion for anti-poverty issues; motivated to help all single mothers flourish.
  • Bring a strengths-based, versus deficit-oriented, approach to addressing poverty.
  • Has a strong understanding of racial equity principles and how to apply them toward programs, strategies, and communications.
  • Highly organized; demonstrated process and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Ethical and strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to manage and report complex information.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; experience presenting to high-level audiences.
  • Highly skilled at teamwork and collaboration, leveraging an inclusion lens.
  • Highly self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a heavy workload and achieve results.
  • MS Office proficiency is required.

FLSA CLASSIFICATION

This position is classified as exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
