Title: Sr. Outreach Specialist
Under direction, works in the community to identify high risk individuals/men seeking men (MSM) and/or High Risk Heterosexuals (HRH). Also, works in and around sites such as recreational areas, parks, and targeted gathering establishments where known high risk activity occurs. Persons from these populations will be contacted and encouraged to participate in Counseling and Testing events, condom distribution, Social Network Recruiting, and PrEP (data collection, education regarding lower risk sex and the prevention of spreading HIV). Provides leadership and direction amongst fellow outreach specialist, aiding in development of skills around community outreach, event planning, and linking to care. Sr. Outreach specialist will serve as intermediate point of contact when applicable for day to day activities surrounding testing and outreach.
Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field OR equivalent experience with a minimum of 5 years direct training and experience, preferably obtained in a variety of locales. Thorough knowledge of HIV and HIV prevention. High level oral communication and interpersonal relationship skills. Capable of working independently and having good organizational and critical thinking skills. Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion, and to maintain and sustain confidential relationships with clients. Working knowledge of targeted populations, field related community partners, and geographical targeted area. Must learn to apply agency, personnel/program policies and procedures and stipulations of the grant contract. Certified in AIDS 101.
