The Product Governance Office (ProGo) comprises individual product specialists and analysts who work closely with BNY Mellon businesses and functions, globally, to develop, assess, and approve product and service innovation for clients. By establishing company-wide standards, tools, and having dedicated resources, ProGo enables BNY Mellon to effectively develop new client solutions. ProGo works to implement strategic priorities of the Firm while providing senior management, business heads, and regulators with timely and transparent data about innovation. Additionally, ProGo operates the Firm’s Senior Product Approval Committee and engages with businesses in RFP responses and public announcements regarding innovation.

 

The Product Specialist is the primary ProGo partner to product management teams working to identify and bring innovation to market. By collaborating with businesses, legal entity management, and functional reviewers, the Product Specialist manages innovation through a robust governance lifecycle. S/he must cultivate strong relationships with their respective business(es) and associated functional staff, think creatively to bring innovation to market responsibly and effectively, and be an excellent communicator.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively cultivate strong and collaborative relationships among businesses, functional reviewers, and ProGo
  • Drive key business initiatives through the ProGo review and approval lifecycle
  • Partner with review teams to develop robust product documentation describing the product and service operating model, key risks, and control environment
  • Proactively coordinate review team engagement across global/local functions, legal entities, and requisite governance forums
  • Work with Head of ProGo and CAO on special projects to enhance ProGo operating efficiency and effectiveness
  • Participate in regular business strategy forums, representing the interests of ProGo with a goal of promoting responsible innovation while meeting strategic timelines of the business
  • Success will predominantly be measured by evaluating the feedback from covered businesses and the quality and timeliness of product innovation brought to the Products Committee

 

 

Key Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to build robust personal relationships with all seniority levels through email, calls, and within public forums
  • Highly organized and able to manage and promote multiple workstreams simultaneously, driving towards demonstrable outcomes within agreed timelines
  • Strong understanding of financial services companies and their products/services
  • Strong reading and writing aptitude – able to present ideas clearly and concisely through writing and edit the writing of others
  • Ability to stand firmly in the face of commercial pressure, while thinking creatively to provide solutions that meet both governance and strategic priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise reasonable and defensible judgment and document such appropriately
  • Ability to organize and prioritize time, work independently, and ensure key tasks stay visible to management and issues are appropriately escalated
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience
  • Technical proficiencies: Excel (Pivot tables, V-lookups), and Powerpoint are required
  • This position requires presentations of data and materials to senior leadership where effective communication, organization, collaboration, project management and similar soft skills are required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degrees in business or MBA degrees are preferred
  • 6 years of experience, with 2 years of experience specifically in product management
