Position Summary

The Sport Operations Manager is responsible for supporting all of the scholastic programming at USA Triathlon –   high school, collegiate club and NCAA triathlon, all of which resides in the Sport Development business unit. This person will take both a leadership and support role with logistical coordination efforts around each of these key programs to meet the established priorities and goals set for the 2023 season and beyond.

General Duties and Responsibilities


High School Program Build – Executing strategy for high school club programs to include:

  • Engage in conversation with top high school clubs in the current scholastic pipeline and other sports with strong club affiliations and create best practice overviews for CSDO to review
  • Aid in the recruitment of key volunteers for the high school working group (talent scouts)
  • Identify all high schools that are located in key markets, per the existing priorities
  • Work with Marketing and Communications on key programming that will help educate the public, members and other constituencies
  • Research key social media markets to target for athlete recruitment
  • Liaise with other staff on related programs (i.e., youth lead, club support lead)
  • Oversee all testing around details of finalized plan
  • Recruit leads for program start ups
  • Oversee all scheduling of events and year end program awards
  • Liaise with all sanctioned event race directors on program needs


Assist with executing strategy for Collegiate Club programs to include:

  • Lead state of collegiate club sports review including assessing current status of existing programs, conference affiliations, leadership structure and models for improving club operations
  • Research, solicit and draft research gleaned from college club models in other sports
  • Develop metric databases to evaluate constituent and athlete rosters and new recruitment
  • Provide tactical viewpoints around marketing, communications and branding to grow the level of support offered to clubs
  • Support Collegiate Club committee activities and needs alongside other USAT club staff
  • Work closely with event organizers as needed for the Collegiate Club National Championship
  • Oversee All-American and rankings programs


Assist with executing strategy for NCAA Programs to include:

  • Assist with all research needed to sustain current programming and for new initiatives and campaigns
  • Leverage data to drive metrics around athlete recruitment
  • Assist with story boarding videos in various key segments around growth and education
  • Lead creation of mentorship program
  • Assist interns with special initiatives as assigned
  • Support all activities around NCAA National Convention and National Association of Collegiate Athletic Directors (NACDA) Convention
  • Coordinate all vendor acquisitions and needs for regional qualifiers and national championship and other activities that are built that support growth and education.
  • Procure all other race related items for all NCAA events including awards and giveaways
  • Administer contract details for all grants
  • Assist in the administration of Name and Image Likeness (NIL) with Foundation team
  • Create master calendar for all programs and update all task boards with the respective business units
  • Oversee all onboarding of new coaches
  • Cross-collaborate with departments to ensure deadlines are met


Budget, Equipment and Inventory Oversight

  • Assist in the creation and oversight of budget, including daily expense tracking, approval and creation of invoices, credit card statements, travel, and reimbursement for all noted programs
  • Create and provide regular expense and revenue projections to CSDO and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned


Supervisory Responsibilities  


This position supervises the Interns and reports directly to the Chief Sport Development Officer


  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years related work experience (Master’s degree preferred), ideally with sport management coursework
  • 2-3+ years’ experience with program and business management responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of scholastic programming a plus
  • Creative, innovative, and forward thinking
  • Strong computer and communication skills
  • Ability to speak and present comfortably in front of groups of varying sizes
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to travel including weekends
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage and complete multiple assignments at the same time, while still maintaining high levels of quality
  • This position will require non-traditional work hours and will include other duties as assigned

Additional Job Information

  • Location: Colorado Springs, hybrid
  • Hiring Pay Range:  $50,000-55,000
  • This is a full time, exempt position
