Job description

DE&S are looking for an experienced professional to lead the Software Acquisition Policy team. This team develops policy, processes, tools and training for a high level Programme of work. In this high profile role you will be responsible for advocating change and introducing better ways of working to improve the way DE&S acquires software embedded in military equipment. Typical projects you could be involved in may include influencing the requirements of future projects across multiple domains, such as Tempest to ensure that our Armed Forces are able to extract data and upgrade embedded software on this platform. In this unique role you will be responsible for developing the policy and assuring projects across Defence for Software Acquisition Management and thus be able to shape, direct and influence the way in which MOD manages Software.

Responsibilities

This position provides an exciting opportunity to be involved with a diverse range of projects across all the domains within DE&S. You will be working with both internal and external stakeholders to raise awareness and advise on software acquisition policy to assist in the development of better Defence Capability. The role will involve the development of software acquisition and support policy and ensure best practice is shared across multiple projects, in order to help manage potential technical risks across the business. Candidates will be required to possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be an effective leader and influencer to multiple teams across the business.

Your role and responsibilities will also include:
• Engage with and influence senior decision makers across DE&S / SDA (Submarine Delivery Agency) and Front Line Commands to ensure the best technical decisions are made for the MOD.
• Utilise problem solving and influencing skills to identify the issue, generate task requirements and define a programme of work to deliver the required outcomes.
• Approve costed proposals for tasks, negotiate and gain approval for resource commitment and deliver high quality products to stringent levels of time, cost and quality.
• Provide expert advice and support to DE&S / SDA customers providing recommendations and delivering high-value benefits.

What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Evidence of providing strong leadership
• Evidence of communicating and influencing a variety of stakeholders including senior stakeholders
• Evidence of seeking professional development in self and others. Sucessful candidates will have or be working towards professional registration with an accredited Professional Body (for example Incorporated Engineer, Chartered or Fellow)
• Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multi-disciplinary projects
• Evidence of introducing / advocating change such as compliance with a new policy, standard or way of working
