Department Summary:

Position Summary:

This position will provide the opportunity to contribute to student success by supporting the work of grounds keeping ultimately contributing a campus that promotes learning and living for a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. The primary responsibilities of the Skilled Laborer (Grounds) is to perform various manual labor tasks in support of the work of grounds keeping.

TOUR OF DUTY:

Tuesday – Saturday (Sunday/Monday as days off), 7:30 am – 4:00 p.m. (during academic year)

Monday – Friday (Saturday/Sunday as days off), 7:30 am. – 4:00 p.m. (during summer months)

Location: BSU Campus Wide

This is an essential position.

This is an AFSCME unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

*Initial assignment only. Subject to change according to institutional needs.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement This position must comply with the University Covid-19 Attestation requirement. All employees must be fully vaccinated and complete the Covid-19 Attestation upon hire.Medical or Religious ExemptionsAn employee may request an exemption to the vaccination requirement based on the existence of medical contraindication to vaccination. In addition, an employee may request an exemption to the vaccination requirement based on a sincere religious belief. In both cases, an employee will be required to submit documentation to support the request for an exemption. Employees who secure an exemption may be required to take additional precautions in the workplace and will be required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing through the university’s Wellness Center.

Position Type: AFSCME Classified

Essential Duties:

• Perform various manual labor tasks in support of the work of grounds keeping:

• Install and repair signs

• Perform various external maintenance tasks including rubbish removal; maintain grounds by planting, transplanting, raking leaves, pruning trees and shrubs, seeding lawns, weeding, maintaining flower beds, etc.

• Perform snow removal and ice control duties

• Perform related work as required

Required Qualifications:

-Applicants must have at least six months of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in performing manual labor in connection with grounds keeping.

-Current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 or higher Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

-Ability to work in team setting.

-Skill in using small hand tools;

-Skill in using hand-held power tools;

-Skill in using variety of motorized equipment such as snow blowers, plows, lawnmowers, weed whackers, etc.;

-Ability to follow instructions;

-Willingness and ability to lift and carry heavy objects;

-Willingness and ability to stand for prolonged periods of time;

-Ability to deal tactfully with students, faculty and staff;

-Physical stamina and endurance.

-Previous landscaping and snow removal experience

Salary Range: $1,443.66 bi-weekly (Grade 10 – Step 1)
