Site Manager, Georgetown Jumpstart – Center for Social Justice

As a part of the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit university, the Center for Social Justice (CSJ) animates the University’s values and mission through its work in research, teaching, and service. A component of the service work includes the direct service work of CSJ’s six signature programs, including the Jumpstart Program.

Jumpstart is grant-funded program providing early childhood language and literacy skills for pre-Kindergarten students in Washington, DC, applying the research-based curriculum from Jumpstart National Network and coordinating closely with Jumpstart DC and other affiliate programs in the DC area. Due to contractual requirements from the program’s grant funding and to meet programming quality for Georgetown undergraduates and community youth, activities occur four to six days a week, often in the evening hours.

The Site Manager, reporting to the CSJ Associate Director, is responsible for on-site coordination and preparation of program sites, managing more than 40 Georgetown student tutors and team leaders, as well as the day-to-day operations of the Georgetown Jumpstart program to ensure that Jumpstart Quality Standards and guidelines are achieved and that the program is meeting grant requirements. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manages the direct programming and preparation of student training and leadership development activities of student team leaders and student staff, including student recruitment, hiring, and placement; coordination of team leader and tutor training, preparation, and learning, including student reflections, recognition, and appreciation; and trainings in the program include a foundational kick-off training and regular site trainings throughout the service year.
  • Coordinates weekly team leader meetings to support team leaders’ site planning and program implementation with tutors; and provides coaching and feedback to tutors and team leaders based on observations related to programmatic expectations and Jumpstart’s standards of quality.

Jumpstart Program Management and Implementation

  • Manages the daily coordination of program sites, including lesson and site plan implementation and tutor preparation – as well as oversight of students’ time submissions and approves all timesheets in GMS by the weekly deadlines.
  • Regularly observes Jumpstart sessions to monitor program quality and implementation according to Jumpstart Quality Standards, working closely and building relationships with community partners to negotiate aspects of program implementation and respond to community needs.

Grant Management

Manages program, grant, and contract compliance as set by University and CSJ policies, coordinating and tracking background check compliance for student tutors and maintaining tutor files for Corporation for National and Community Service; assures grant compliance and regular program evaluation, including assessment of program impact on youth and Georgetown students.

CSJ Activities

  • Participates in cross-program collaboration with other CSJ programs such as the After School Kids (ASK) Program, DC Schools Project, the DC Reads Program, Homelessness Outreach programs, and the STEM Afterschool Program.
  • Participates in CSJ activities, including advising student organizations, attending staff and committee meetings, and collaborations with other programs and University departments.

Jumpstart National Network Support

Participates in cross-site collaboration with other Jumpstart programs in Washington, DC, attends an annual Jumpstart National Network leadership institute and new staff training, and participates in CSJ activities, including advising student organizations, attending staff and committee meetings, and collaborations with other programs and University departments.

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, literacy, psychology, social work, education, or a related field
  • At least one year in community-based youth program management or comparable experience

  • Experience working with college students and volunteers, familiarity with university culture, and working in diverse communities
